New owner needs some advice please.

Greetings, I have recently acquired my father's old DateJust Rolex. He has had it for years and it is well worn, but still had the original box with it. My questions are as follows, and please forgive me if the answers are given elsewhere in the forum and I have over looked them.
The first is what would be a good way to clean the watch and give the scratches out of the lens? It is not as bad as the picture shows.
The second is I plan on never getting rid of the watch but am not pleased with the dial color. I would like a black dial. Is that at all possible and at the same time should I have it serviced? My dad had it done about five years ago and it keeps great time. Thank you all once again in advance.

If its a acrylic crystal polywatch in tubes or Autosolve metal polish will remove scratches. But if its sapphire then its diamond paste or get crystal replaced on service.Regarding service acrylic crystals are replaced as part of normal service. And yes its possible to have dial changed at service time but with the dial cost.As the watch has to be stripped down for service would doubt if there would be a labour charge to fit the dial, myself would keep original dial, Rolex recommends a service every 5-7 years.

I'm a big fan of black face DJ's, but the gold is classic, too. The dial on your watch is a particularly pretty and unusual version. I think I'd wear it for a year or two before I thought seriously about changing it.

I don't service my Rolex till they aren't working properly. However, 7 years is a pretty good run. If you think you'll be getting it wet regularly, you might want to have it serviced to insure water tightness. If you do, the watch guys can polish your watch to near new look.

You can also find a decent watch tech who will do only a polish. You'll be impressed with the results.

That dial looks beautiful--great watch, and even better because it was your father's. A replacement dial would run you several hundred $$ on top of service cost; if you get it done at Rolex, they will require a full service at that time for about $600 more.

Local watch repair shop might be able to get you out much, much cheaper--especially if you can source the dial on your own.

Congrats on a great watch!

Welcome! First of all, your dial (tapestry) is beautiful. I agree with everyone else here. IMHO, best bet is to send it to RSC for full service. You will be nicely surprised by the results.

I have that exact watch that I inherited from my father when he passed back in 1998. Love it! I only have a Rolex RSC work on my watches but I'm a little OCD... Best of luck and I hope you enjoy the watch as much as your dad surly did!

Thank you so much for the input!!! I think I will just keep the dial the same as suggested. I reason I thought about changing it to begin with, is that I saw a DateJust II with the black face and gold and it looked really nice. If I keep the dial the same it will give me an excuse to buy another Rolex!!!!!!!! Is there any lens cleaner I can purchase to try and clean it myself? The watch keeps great time and I see no reason to go into it if I don't have to. Thanks again!!!!!
