Sub no date maxi case and dial

Hi guys!

I was just thinking of Basel 2011...

Anyone have an idea how a new sub no date would look?

Anyone with photoshop skills here?

I guess it would be an instant hit!

Not gonna happen. Rolex is content making the 14060 the way it is and there are other watches more in need of an update, like the Daytona.

You will probably find that a new Sub ND will be available sooner than a updated Daytona... Since there is a possibility of a 50th anniversary Daytona out in 2013-ish.....

A Sub ND-C is quite possible fir Basel 2011, alongside the new EXP II (fingers crossed)

Only Rolex knows what Rolex will or will not do.

Personally I like the Sub ND the way it is. Why mess with the classic Rolex watch?

Some think it's messing with the classics others think it's updating the classics. Rolex have been doing that with almost every model range.

I think that both the Daytona and Sub ND will get updates, it's just a matter of "when"...

I hope the Sub no date stays the way it is. I really do not care for the case on the new Sub. The rest of the improvements are nice though.

My guess is with the change over the past few years to the super case/maxi dial for the rest of the sub line that it is only a matter of time that the no date will also change. Long term it does not make sense for rolex to keep them as two distinct case styles ( date vs nodate). Personally I think it would be a nice update. The current one is looking long in the tooth. Not to mention how much better the new bracelet/clasp is.

I'll bet you a brand new Sub ND it won't change at Basel 2011.

You're probably right as I reckon it will get discontinued altogether and not be replaced by a ceramic version.

Why would you both think that?

? The SD was replaced with a new deeper, more expensive model, not 'gone'. The Explorer was replaced with a new larger, more expensive model, not 'gone'. The Sub Date was replaced with a new upgraded, more expensive model, not 'gone' either.

The Sub ND, otoh, has been made in the same format with the older case, bracelet, clasp, movement, etc., since approximately the end of the US Civil War. I see no future in betting the farm that it will suddenly change anytime soon. Rolex likely sees this model as a cash cow that continues to sell well despite, maybe because of, its retro format, requiring no research, no retooling or other investment. If they did change it, it would very likely only pirate a few sales from the Sub-C. Why do that for a less expensive model, it would only cost them money?

I disagree that the Daytona is in need of an update.

But all of those models have gone from the Rolex line-up and, as you rightly point out, have been replaced with newer models. Why would the ND Sub be any different? Any watch Rolex makes is a cash cow, as far as they're concerned, and I agree that an updated ND Sub would just steal sales from the new Ceramic Sub which is also why I think the ND Sub will just be retired and not replaced at all.

That's how I felt too until Rolex mucked up and came out with the Explorer 39mm. Anything's possible now. At the very least, put a Solid End Link bracelet on the darn SubND 14060m. Hello? The 20th Century called, they want their cheap bracelet back.
