A little help with a SS sub purchase please
I truly appreciate your help. I've been lusting for a SS sub/date for quite some time. Someone locally is selling an A series SS sub/date for 3k firm. He has a few other rolexes and apparently this one has been sitting in a safe for the past two years as it no longer fits his wrist. It was purchased in '99. He has all the papers, but not the box. It has never been serviced. Two questions...1. does this seem like a fair price and 2. Is it a problem that it's been sitting in a safe for two years. Can't thank you enough for your input.

First off welcome.
I would say it is a good deal if it is legit. Figure 500 bucks for an overhaul, but thinking you will not need it for a couple more years. |

Thanks for your reply. Definitely legit...he has the receipt from the original sale and is meeting me at the same jeweler so they can certify its legitimacy. No problems with it sitting unwound for two years?
...and thanks for the welcome! |

Shouldn't have any problems with sitting. For 3k, that seems to be a very good deal, especially if it is in good condition.
Enjoy it.

Welcome to TRF, pal.
The price seems pretty fair. Do one thing...just unscrew the crown and start to wind it. If it still feels real smooth like a TRIPLOCK crown should, I think you're fine. Ask him if you can "test" the watch for a couple of days and see how it's performing....or else just buy it straight off provided you're 100% certain of its authenticity. Good luck - JJ

Well...got it today. Certified Rolex tech said it was in excellent shape and quite a buy! Wearing it right now as I type. Very, very happy with my first Rolex. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I think USD 3,000 for a modern preowned SS Submariner is fair enough. That's the price that you're going to pay if you purchase it from preowned watch dealer. But I think you can still negotiate with him, as you need to have the watch serviced after you purchase it. Normally a Rolex needs to be serviced every 5-7 years. So you would need to pay another USD 300-400 for the service. May be he'll understand and reduce the price a little bit. Good luck...

Me too......
I have a local guy that I have negotiated a price of $3300 for a K serial Sub with Date - the watch (based on the pics) looks super clean. It has all the boxes, papers, anchor, etc.
I am feeling pretty good about it - looking for affirmation??? Thanks K4S (Steve) |

That's a fair price as long as you did your homework on the seller..

Good deal. Just remember you're buying the seller. If you can trust him/her, and the funds are there, go for it.
