Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea (JLC)

email from JLC today and thought it is quite a looker.... this is one of the very few JLCs i like

Quote:
In 1959, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the first automatic diving watch equipped with an alarm: the Memovox Deep Sea. Three years earlier, in 1956, Captain Cousteau had unveiled the splendours of undersea life in his famous film "The Silent World", which caused an unprecedented craze for the new diving techniques that he had developed using air cylinders. The Memovox Deep Sea, water-resistant to 10 bar and with its alarm notifying divers of when to begin their re-ascent, was astonishingly popular.

Still riding the wave of success enjoyed by its diving watch range, Jaeger-LeCoultre sought to pay tribute this year to their original bond with the watery depths, and so the new Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea revisits the Memovox Deep Sea—the first automatic diving watch equipped with an alarm. With identical characteristics to the original model (with the exception of the case diameter, artfully increased from 39 to 40.5 mm), this new timepiece is sure to entice collectors.
Two limited series of 959 and 359 pieces respectively will be exhibited at the "Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie". The first version sports a black dial, while the second has a two-tone anthracite and black dial, originally developed for the US market and bearing the inscription “LeCoultre”, a historic allusion guaranteed to delight aficionados of the history of fine watchmaking.

LeClub provides exclusive access to Jaeger-LeCoultre news, while the LeBlog section offers visitors the chance to discover the rich history of the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea.

This unique timepiece will be presented during the "Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie" (SIHH) to take place from 17 to 21 January. Stay tuned!

Love the American limited edition! The 2nd timezone make this a feature packed combo.
Very nice but most certainly out of my price league.

wow, that American version is stunning. Using a plexiglass crystal was an intersting touch.

I actually like the Euro version a bit more myself.

Love the rotating bezel, love the alarm, love it being a diver
DROOL perhaps the PERFECT travel watch
BUT
I am sure it will be out of my budget :(

Alarm and a second timezone is VERY close to my perfect travel watch
(perfect travel watch would be second timezone, chrono (a real chrono not 30 min or whatever), date and alarm oh yes, tritium lume so I can ALWAYS tell the time)

WOW
So clean, So classy, So functional!!

Big thumbs up!! I wonder what the price will be, I know not cheap!

Jeremy, both will be available at 9500 Euros, so "it's not that bad" me thinks.

Honestly for a limited JLC alarm I do not think it's that bad but still more than I'd allocate for it.

They had a nice full perp cal with tone or vibe alarm in gold a couple years back which you can find for under 18k and that's something that makes me drool! Still the dial was a bit too busy for my taste.

I like the European dial. The American dial is perfect EXCEPT the script on the lower half ruins it for me.

Nice size too, much better than a 44mm dinner plate.

Bezel doesn't rotate, apparently. Something about fidelity to the original, which also didn't rotate.

Price is 9500 Euros. So you can get both.

Bezel does not rotate??

BIG negative in my book :(

I understand it's trying to keep with the heritage but still not for me.

I guess I can save my money for something else HAHAHA

yeah the bezel not rotating was weird when I read it but it is trying to stay close to the original...in press release pics I liked the euro dial better for its simplicity but in real life pics that I saw, the American one really stands out and doesn't look as busy as it does in stock pics...so both are good pieces IMO for someone who is very nostalgic

Very beautiful watch, both versions are great, but I like European a bit more, because of cleaner look.
Anyway, it`s (unfortunately) way above my price range right now.

I am so split between the two ...having a hard time deciding...
the European version looks a lot like the Tribute to Polaris that i missed out on and been wanting...
but the US version has soo much history and unique LeCoutre...
ARGH...there goes my watch budget this year...

Eric, since you like one, maybe we can get you to branch out and like some more of the JLC brand.

I know its hard to make the change from GShock to JLC.

Just something I guess I need to help you with.

I also think I like the cleaner European look.

Thanks Dan, after my not so pleasant shopping experience with JLC mid last year (long story, their after sales people is still trying to sort it out for some reason... ), I have no desire to shop for their piece ATM, unless something I really like....

Anyway, came close pulling the trigger on a White dial Reverso Squadra Chrono on strap....

Tried the black one also, but preferred the White dial version

Can't say I have not given JLC a chance right...?

Yep, I saw that one last week as well, however the Master Calendar spoke to me instead. It said BUY ME. I don't often hear voices, but I figured this one was a sign. So I bought one today.

Hey, one of the lessons I have learnt so far are - listen and do that little voice tells you.

Can't go wrong with that
