Time-setting questions about my very 1st Rolex

Hi People,

I am delighted to have received a Rolex Sub ND as a gift very recently and it also turns out that this is my very first Rolex! Needless to say, i am totally new to the Rolex experience and found it rather tricky to even wind up and set the time....

Well, one question i have is after unlocking the crown, can i pull it immediately to the time-setting position or do i have to wind it up 20-30 rotations of the crown?? I tried to pull the crown out to set the time after a few rotations (maybe 10-20, i dont really know) but i couldnt as i didnt want to pull at the crown too hard for fear it might break or screw up or something... However, after more rotations, i actually did manage to pull it out without much effort. So, does this mean i have to wind it up before i can pull the crown out further to set the time?

Also, do i have to really use some effort to tug at the crown?

Sorry for being longwinded but im kinda OCD when it comes to such precious and cool stuff like a Rolex. Hope you guys understand.

Thank you all in advance yeah

Cheers,
Khai

Unscrew crown first position for winding, second position date setting, crown fully out to change time. And no you don't have to wind your watch first, but I would recommend a full manual wind say once a week give it 40 full crown turns clockwise.

It is a mechanical machine. Stuff needs to align and sometimes it takes a wiggle or two to pull the crown all the way out..

You do not need to wind it in order to pull the crown out, but it is frequently easier to rotate it a bit back and forth while pulling.. Don't worry too much about a firm and proper tug, it's designed to be pulled on.....

Congratulations, you've got a great watch. I agree with the other posters. My 14060 takes a little bit of a tug to set the time.

Welcome to the forum, congrats on the new watch. It can be a bit frustrating trying to "hack" the second hand and the get the minute hand to align to the markers. Remember, it is a complicated precision mechanical device and the way you wear it or let it "Rest" will affect the time keeping. A couple seconds fast or slow in 24 hours is fine, don't let it become an obsession.

May have missed this. Did you buy this at a dealer? Would have hoped he would have demod the watch for you.

The manuals are a good reference as well.

Congrats!

Thanks a million guys!!!

as im paranoid about trying to keep all the stuff i love in as mint a condition , i feared about actually tugging too hard at the crown to set the time or over-winding it.

I would have liked if it the gift came with a set of operating and handling instructions but it was a gift so i couldnt have asked for more!

Anyways, im glad there is a forum to ask my noob questions and thanks once again.

Will post pics soon.

Cheers,
Khai

My explorer (same movement) sometimes needs a little "wiggle" before I can pull it out to set the time. I usually unscrew, rotate forward and back about a quarter turn (ie: wiggle) and then it comes out smoothly. It doesnt need it very often, but I now do it out of habit.
