Online appraisal

Is there any place online I can get an appraisal done? Either via a website or through a Trf member?

No, how can they say something is authentic without actually
having it in their hands, how can they truly establish a value without
seeing it in person.

Go to a local Jeweler, heck you could likely even get a written estimate
from a pawn shop but anyplace whose gonna give you an appraisal is
going to need to see it in person.

How can you get a horse appraisal at a jeweler?

The post says nothing about a watch.

It would be worth the price of the paper it's printed on.

PS. A horse is $8.95/Pound if smoked and sliced thin.

However, if you do not need an actual appraisal and just need to get a general idea of what your watch may be worth for your own purposes, I am sure there are members who could assist you.

I need it for insurance purposes, and yes its for my watch Jocke!

I figured maybe I could get a virtual appraisal using my webcam..was just a thought. Its not too easy to get someone in NYC to appraiser it, nobody ever has the time...

One of the many AD's in NY should appraise it, for a fee of cause....!

Hunh???

They all do it, it just takes a fee....
Any AD will do it, any pawn shop will do it, even in the phone book you will find appraisers listed who only appraise things.

OK, your webcam idea... Can you open the caseback on webcam for an appraiser? If not how can they verify the movement? It would be FAR too easy for someone to get fake appraisals and scam insurance.

No, thats not bad at all when you consider how much it saves you should anything ever happen to your watch.

In the future you can usually get them to do it free when you purchase a watch

Seriously you need to realize they have to open and then reseal the case (not just close it, they have to seal it to ensure its watertight as if something happens they are liable) also you need to realize they assume a risk. Someone on one of the boards bought a watch a few years back and the AD said it was all good when the buyer brought it in for appraisal, later on the buyer sent it to RSC to be fixed and it was a fake (very good one but a fake) anyway he sued the AD who gave him the appraisal and they ended up just giving him a new authentic version of what he had and called it a day.

Heck, how old is the watch? Perhaps you should kill two birds with one stone if its a few years old and get a service... If you do that perhaps they will give you a written appraisal free and ur watch will be good to go for a while

$75 seems to be the going rate for an appraisal here in Chicago as well.
