Icon6 FS: Vintage OMEGA Seamaster 600 PloProf 166.0077, circa 1970's - Unpolished

Good day, TRF

Small print first: Overnight shipping and insurance are included in US, will ship overseas, but at the buyer's expense. Price quoted is for payment by bank wire, PayPal/credit cards are OK, but buyer pays the fees (typically around 3% of amount, higher for AMEX). Returns accepted if the watch is misrepresented in ANY way. Have TONS of references, on and off TRF. Face-to-face in Southern Ohio or Northern Kentucky is fine, we can meet at an AD if that makes you comfortable. PM me with any questions, or call/text me at 513 680 6239 ~ Greg

G'd day, TRF. I have a watch here that needs a good home. I absolutely love it, but I only own what I wear - and I'm scared to wear vintage. So my inhibitions are your gain (but if ANYONE has a modern PloProf for trade, please holler at me ). Otherwise, this baby would be in my personal collection in a heartbeat. But enough rambling, about the watch:

Omega Seamaster Professional PloProf 600m

(sometimes referred to as "Jacques Cousteau" design)

model 166.0077, Circa early 1970's

Need $5250 net.

Collectible: This model broke many boundaries in the 1970's, and many still consider it ahead of its time in design and function. The PloProf (Plongeur Professionel) 600 became a cult classic after being discontinued, and there are very few remaining in this condition.

actual watch, more pics at the bottom

CONDITION: Let's just say that it is very hard to believe this watch is roughly 40 years old... The monobloc case is unpolished - and quite frankly, doesn't need to be. There are some light signs of wear, but the original satin finish and beveled edges are perfectly intact - just look at the high-res pics. The crystal has couple small chips in it, but no cracks - so structurally it is in excellent shape. The acrylic bezel insert has one crack right at the 25 mark, but otherwise intact. The bracelet is an original Omega 'Shark' mesh bracelet (later added to this watch), will fit just under 7.5 inches. I assume that this watch is still waterproof, but have not had it pressure tested. Mechanically, it is perfect - runs as a chronometer should and the date function is crisp and precise!

FURTHER DETAILS

*Automatic-winding Omega Caliber 1002 with hack feature and quick-set date

*Large assymetrical monobloc case engineered for heavy-duty diving

*Thick black rotating bezel with luminous 60-minute calibration, which is released by depressing the large red button on the side of the case.

*A 2-piece screw-in crown/square crown protection device

*'Ocean-Blue' dial with luminous hands and markers (still glows strong after minimal light exposure - could be relumed, but could be just Omega)

*Center seconds, minutes (orange 'sword' hand) and hours (shorter white rectangle hand)

*“Monolytic chemically-soaked mineral crystal treated with anti-reflective and anti-abrasive material pressed to 120 kg, then held on the gasket by a screw-in ring" (as described by Omega themselves, I couldn't do it better)

*Omega 'Shark' mesh bracelet reference 1266/237 with an extension piece and a pull-release clasp - again, I am certain, was added later - but fits well, and is an original Omega.

CASE DIMENSIONS:
55.1mm wide by 44.8mm long
Thickness - 14mm

Exposure slowed down to show detail

So (sorry David, my man) - let's find this 40-year-old-near-virgin a new home.

Icon3 I'm sorry for untimely bump...

but I need to clarify something. I mentioned it in the original listing, but for some reason that it is the only font that remained small

Regarding the LUME shot: The exposure was pretty slow, so that I would capture all the details. It isn't brighter, but definitely more focused. I was asked several times if I believe this to be a later service dial - here is what I do know: vast majority of service dials read 600m/2000ft, not just 600. As far as the lume - again, I do not know for sure if this dial had been relumed - but if it has - it would have been done by Omega.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions, I will answer them to the best of my ability.

Cheers,
Greg
