Fake-o-rama at the ballgame

I went to see a baseball game (Dodgers vs. Padres) with tickets that the lady and I won from work. The guy sitting in front of me had the first knockoff Rolex I had ever seen. From what I saw, I was a blue dialed YM with quartz movement on a crappy oyster bracelet. The guy sitting next to me and i had been chatting it up a bit about scuba diving in Mexico, so I mentioned that the watch was a knockoff. He asked me how I could tell, and I pointed out a few ways.

He replied that while in Mexico he had bought a knockoff Rolex for $40 also and it worked fine...lol

I hate the knockoffs. I didn't mention it to the guy who had one because he was with his son and I didn't want to embarrass him, but I just don't understand the type of person who wears a fake brand name item. I personally would just buy a watch I liked that wasn't a Rolex and be happy with that.

Down with the knockoffs!!!!!!!

Welcome to the world of the wannabes, Brendan.

These are the people who want you to think they are wearing an expensive timepiece but are too cheap to buy the real thing - that they wouldn't appreciate anyway. That goes for about 90% of the people out there. Why do you think the knockoff artists are so successful.

WEll of course I do not like fake Rolexes, but I remember in the Army some guys buying fake subs, casue they liked the look and function but could not afford the real thing. They got some really good quality fakes for about $150. Some wore them for quite a while and no problems at all. Now, me, I would not feel comfortable wearing a fake Rolex. Cause I know it is fake and for ethical reasons. I would rather buy a good Seiko for $150 and wear it.

i dont understand people who get worked up over people wearing fakes. who cares. lol. when i see that or someone is so happy to tell you the item they have is a fake it makes me feel bad for them and good about my own purchase.

I think 90% of people who wear real rolex's are wannabees. I reckon most people buy rolex's to impress people they don't even like. If you wanted a watch that was a master piece then it probably would not be a rolex. Most people including me want a rolex to impress. (look deeply and truthfully and I bet most can't say they don't buy one for the same reason)

I can talk I have two of them, but that is beside the point.

Good on people who wear fakes, some of the replicas are that close that you nearly have to pull the back off them to tell. If they get away with impressing 99% of the population who notice their rolex and still have $5000 in their pocket then who is the smart one?

Fakes

I heard a great definition of status

People who buy things they dont need
With money they dont have
To impress people they dont like

I really feel like my watch is a masterpiece. there may be some truth in what you say but I honestly bought my watch because of the reputation for Rolex quality--which was the real reason I could justify spending 5000 on a watch. The whole impressing thing is very secondary. I agree with you though--most people would never admit to this. i would submit to you that the majority of people on this forum, myself included, are on here to talk about watches because we have no one to talk to about our love for Rolex in day to day life because we do not want to appear to brag or be mistaken as snobbish

I kind of understand a 15 year old kid who has a fake, in full growing up phase with all the stupidities that will bring along.
But an adult is a completly other thing. For gods sake show some backbone and buy a swatch if you can't buy a Rolex. I can respect a swatch, not a fake however well done it is.

i'm actually all right with fakes, not that i own any myself but thats probably due to the fact i never thought of owning a rolex or even a watch for that matter.

while i'm personally not against buying fakes for wearing, i feel uncomfortable with people buying fakes to show off. its fine if you really like the design but you can't afford it so you buy a fake to wear but to buy a fake and trying to lead people into thinking its real is really lame. are you sure you want your real friends to look at you that way? and people who look up to you because you own a rolex, are you sure you want to befriend them?

As for people with real rolexes, some guys actually think they're better then the man who sweeps the streets by the virtue of the rolex on their wrist and its not only my friends , i've even noticed some of that exemplary behaviour here, at least the man out there keeps the streets clean.

I was never a watch person. I felt if I was going to buy a watch it would have to be a Rolex for whatever it means to own one. I see some of you guys obsess over them and some of you guys have $20,000-50,000 worth of Rolexes in your collection. Thats cool, but I wear it to wear a watch. Some days I don't even look at my watch. This experience for me is something to socialize about and learn about details of Rolex which is appealing. Its cool to hear from members about to spend $5,000-$6,000 and asking everyones advice. This is a small hobby for me. My passion is R/C racing.

I also, don't have a problem with fakes, as long as a person is honest if you ask them if it's real or not. I had fakes for years and as I got older(I'm 34 now) I felt more and more like a fraud wearing a fake, so for a while I started buying Invicta's and other watches in the $2000 or less price range and eventually I got my Rolex. But I try not to judge a person who wears a fake. I just have to question their character when they lie to my face and tell me it's real even though I can tell it's not. But some of the fakes I've seen are of really, really good quality and it sometimes makes me wonder if a genuine Rolex is indeed worth the high price tag... I saw a fake TT GMT-II Anniversary the other day with green dial and green bezel(which I know doesn't exist) and it looked damn good.. It looked like a watch that should exist in the GMT line-up. And I almost bought it for $100 bucks... ha! And I still might go back... haha!

the jokes on them. why does it even bother you guys. you should be secure enough with yourself and your own purchasing habits that what other people do shouldn't matter

It bothers me because it was a shitty example of a fake and from the way he was flashing his arm around and sitting, it seemed as though he was trying to let it be noticed. I personally didn't like having it in my face - and for those not in the know who might think it is real, it gives a bad impression of Rolex in general because it looked like crap!

Myself, until recently I owned a counterfeit SS Daytona white dial.

In some ways, my fake Daytona encouraged me to buy the real thing.

How could I wear it during a business meeting with someone important and if they asked if it was real, what was I going to say???????????????

So I got rid of it and bought an SD.

Count me in as one of those that was influenced by his Folex to actually go out and buy the real thing.

So, there is a benefit of the counterfeits out there.

You click on the double inverted commas next to Quote. Click on as many of these as you like.

Then go right to the bottom and click on Post Reply. All the quotes will come up and you can then post your reply accordingly.

My parents brought me back a Fake SS DJ from vacation, It was nice - But I refused to wear it. Two years later, they gave me the real thing and I wear it with pride

I got to find that thing, I don't even remember if it was a good fake. I remember it had the new DJ bracelet.
