PAM 420 - Shanghai LE finally arrived! NEW PICS
Sorry for another post on the same subject, but was too tired last night to take nice pics. Anyway, below are some better (at least a bit) pics of my latest acquisition the PAM 420 Shanghai Boutique edition.
It's been a long time coming, as delivery was initially slated for last Oct and combined with the usual delays and then the decision to release the first batch for only dual purchases with the other boutique SE this meant that quite a few of us have been hanging in there. Personally, I think it's something that Panerai should get a better handle on as I would have probably got the 366 if I knew the wait would be so long. I've swapped the strap to a JV on deployment and am getting to know the watch better today, my initial thoughts are that I like it a lot, the tinted/fake patina for the indices works well, the pig looks great but doesn't stick out in your face and the engraving of the Shanghai-Pudong Bund skyline is well executed. Overall I think that the 420 sits well with my 312 and 88, as well as probably being the watch which reminds me of my time in China and what a fantastic city Shanghai is in later years...

your association with the particular city is what makes the boutique editions so special to the owners...

Added some wrist shots
I've added some wrist shots today.
Tried to take one outside with the Pearl Tower background - like the caseback engraving, but it was a bit gloomy as you can see Also added a few from indoors which show up better, one where the PIG is prominent and another where it's hard to detect...

I pciked up the 420 last Friday and it was not one of the 410/420 sets.
Basically I kept badgering the sales guy there and using as much guanxi as possible to expidite - think it's a case on just keep reminding them of the long delay to be kept top of mind...

Yeah.. .it's the same for me. I've been buggering them and got the 366 just before CNY and made a HUGE mistake telling them to delay the 420 for me since I just got the 366... One week later, the new 420 batch came in but was sold to someone else and I wasn't been informed. Regretted it so much now and and it seems I have to wait until April (earliest) before the next batch of 420 can arrive.
Btw, u got the 420 from IFC or the Plaza 66 boutique? |

ancs88, sorry to hear about your delays in getting the 420, but congrats on the 366 - it's one which in hindsight I would have picked up if I knew about the delays on the 420. The boutique I picked up the 420 from was the IFC one as it's only one stop away from Nanjing Lu where I work...

It is really sad that we have to keep pushing and pushing and end up paying no-discount prices for the watch that we want. I guess that they are really smart in doing such.

Agree,, think it could be handled a lot better and more transparently.
Simply just have a list, first come first serve and then whenever someone chases quote how many people are before you on the list and that they have absolutely no idea of when they will have the next batch in. What I thought let them down to me was the confidence they had in saying next month to me... for 5 months on the trot...

Thanks, the 410/420 combo refers to the the initial delivery batch, where I think something like the first 20 orders were for people who ordered both a Panerai 410 and a Panerai 420, both being Shanghai SEs...

I am wearing my 312 and 111 everynow and then. For the 420, I will store it for passing on to my son in due course. On that day, I will tell him that I arrived at Shanghai during 2010 which was the year that they release this Shanghai edition. |

There should be 30 sets of the 410/420 combo watches. I did suggest to the boutique that they should have a bigger box (like the PAM 341) to house both watches together, rather than to store them seperately. after all it is a special edition set.

Thanks. I heard someone has bought more than 10 366s!!! There is a newspaper article saying someone from Hong Kong went to Chengdu and bought 6 of them at one go!
Due to the "normal" look of 367 and its higher price than 366, I believe that it is really worth while holding on to your 366. |
