The Rolex Modernisti Club!

Okay, so we have the Grumpy Curmudgeon Club who love their pre-ceramic and supercase models, so how about a club for everyone who loves the revised models! Me, I'm an avowed Modernista, give me one of the new models every day of the week!

Who's with me?

(And I'm doing this with my tongue firmly in cheek, let's keep it civil, and above the belt )

I am absolutely with you on this notion. I enjoyed a Sea-Dweller for years but the cheap feeling clasp left me yearning. I sold it and later purchased a SubC and I am absolutely in love with it.

I am really enjoying seeing where Rolex is headed in the future. I expect to see a Pepsi GMT coming soon and the revised Explorer II is on my short list.

Rolex takes it time perfecting and evolving and this keeps the value of the brand high. Kudos, Rolex

I'm sorry to say this, but I don't care about any models with the old bracelet and old clasp. For the price of a Rolex model, I just can't live with tinny clasp and stretchy bracelet. I don't fancy the non-maxi dial too, and I much prefer the bolder looks of the DJ II over the DJ, and same goes for DD II vs DD. I also love the look of the ceramic bezel and the amazing GlideLock clasp.

I can't say the same about the new Daytona and the new Exp II though. I fear the monobloc ceramic bezel of the Daytona would be too brittle without the steel protector ring; and I would have preferred the Exp II to stay at 40mm. Apart from those niggles, I'm pretty much a sucker for the updated models so far.

Is the clasp really so important? I use my clasp twice a day! I'd rather wear a (lugholed, and preferably 1970s) SD tied on with a piece of string, than any of the newer pieces. JMO.

Im 20, and trust me what rolex does is so subtle to keep up with fashion and trend, they don't change their designs until the trend is 100% set. They still remain true to there history but without change they will never adapt to there new market like my generation for example. Trust me the new models are wayyyyy better.

Cannot do it. 16610 with every update except maxicase. IMHO the maxicase does not flow. The bracelet looks like it does not fit, just use what is in stock, old stock, and who care how it looks. A sguare body with a round dial. Others brands have already done this. To each their own. But to discontiue the classic design does not sit well with me. While I do not think I am a "Grumpy Curmudgeon", I would prefer to pick some of the updates - not all.

Okay, call me a "Grumpy Curmudgeon", I have been called worse.

Have a wonderful day. The whole point of this forum, in my mind, is we all are allowed to express our opinions.

Kyle, quite frankly, the Pepsi bezel is the only pre-updates thing I crave after. I only hope Rolex will eventually be able to put the GMT IIC Pepsi together. Fingers crossed.

Gentlemen (& again I use the term loosely) please, please, why can't we all get along?
We are all Rolex/Tudor /Cellini afficionados & even though the curmudgeons are in the right & are just spreading the true gospel.....we should all be civil......& try to help those younger afficionados who are lost souls wandering in the desert of fickle fashion.

Yes, it is. It popped off my wrist twice. I had to have it repaired. I wore it exclusively to dive. The watch and my wrist were subjected to many extremes.

The SD then, when I owned it, was over $5,000 list. I owned a few other watches that cost less than that which had superior clasps.

The clasp and bracelet on my SubC are far superior now and where they should've been back then if you ask me. The bracelet is now a work of art and on par with the fit and finish of the rest of the watch.

It popped off your wrist? How? I've seen a lot of old-clasp bashing, but never heard of one popping-off before. I've worn a 16610 for ten years now without any popping-off... so far!

I was starting to give up on Rolex--couldn't find a model I liked except the LV Sub which I already have--but then they go and pull that new Daytona out of their hat. Let's just say I'm very impressed, they really nailed it.

Count me in Chris - I'm all for the new cases/ceramic bezels/Glidelock clasps!

The old style also works for me - I still have two - but the new models look and feel better on my wrist.

My wrist would often swell (it's cold down there, but warm on the boat in a wetsuit) and it eventually caused it to pop off my wrist on the boat. The second time it came off when climbing back into the boat - fortunately it fell in 15 feet of water (Stingray City) and I was able to retrieve it.

The "safety" clasp was the first to break. I had that repaired. Then the clasp itself broke (the tab).

Don't get me wrong, I loved the Sea-Dweller. I just wish the bracelet matched the rest of the build quality. I eventually switched over to a NATO strap to ease my fears.

I'm diving next month with my new SubC and I cannot wait to get it wet.

Aaah to be young

EDIT: Waitasec, that generalized statement, "Aaah to be young," is really not fair, I mean common, not even Kyle L would say something like what rolexsweep posted, so I apologize to all of our young members for my remark.

I'd start an "Apology 'thread'" like some do around here, but I can Raf outta the corner of my eye and he's gotta damned spanner in his hand and a voltmeter connected to the RAFBOT, so you'll understand that I cant cuz we have a 'situation' here !

Thanks,
Randy

Count me in. I recently added a Serti Blue TT Sub C to my green LV-C and GMT II C's (SS and TT). I traded up from slightly older subs simply because I prefer the look and heft of the newer models. My school of thought is buy and wear what you like. Although I most certainly respect the fact that everybody has a right to their opinion.
