Pardon my ignorance but I thought most or all Rolex are machine assembled rather than individually assembled like in the video? Don't they make about 1 million watches a year...

The do make quiet a lot of watches. Number is unknown. 1 million is too many, I think the number is less by a few hundred thousand....

some parts would definately be machine made, and some parts would be by hand....

Well they make them very quick in the video but it still takes in many cases 2-5 weeks for simple regulation if sent to the RSC.And could be 8-10 weeks or longer to service them, I wonder why if they can assemble them that fast.Perhaps they are only hand assembled for video shoots etc,the rest are highly robotised.

I believe that Rolex movements are hand assmebled, as are Grand Seiko movement (8L35, 9S55..etc) and many others...I think that the parts are machine produced BUT hand assembled...take a look at the video and notice how difficult it would be to automate such an intricate process that involves a VERY high dexterity...

That will explain fact that a mass produced SS sports watch can retail for nearly £5000 then.

What's more annoying is the fact that I still absolutely love them!

Not 1 million - not even close.

COSC Certifications for Rolex:
2008 - 769,850
2009 - 607,511
2010 - ???

Today's economic situation has definately hit Rolex.

They have the profit margins to pay for hand assembly if they want, but it certainly could be done automatically as well. We may never know how it REALLY goes together.
