Whats your quintessential Rolex?
To me Rolex was an 18k Day Date... as crazy as this is gonna sound, you bought a steel model until you could afford the DD... growing up in Northern New Jersey in the 70's & 80's all the "big shots" on both sides of the law wore 18k YG DD's, Judges, Lawyers, Doctors, & Mobsters... Even the President of the United States wore one... It was one of the few things that said, you were someone who knew what the good life was about... the Rolex brand to me was pure glamor... What model means Rolex to you & why?

Submariner for me. I've wanted a Sub since I was a kid, since before I even knew how much they cost. My dad has always worn a diver, and I asssociate that style with him. My first real watch was a timex diver that looked a lot like a Sub. It had the Mercedes hand and everything. I didn't even know that it looked like a Rolex. When the day came that I got my first good look at a Submariner, I knew that was it--that's the one watch for me. It all came together. Seeing my Dad's watches and admiring my own beloved diver, and then seeing the Sub, I realized that to me, it was the end-all-be all of watches. It's just me. Something about it, the design, the crown, the text on the dial, it stirs up a lot of childhood memories that I can barely put my finger on.
I'll have one someday. |

I was always intrigued by the history of the Rolex brand.
How did it get started? When did it get started? Where did it get started? That's what drove me, until I finally tracked down what we believe to be the very first generation Rolex and the birth of the brand, the Big Bang of Rolex.

18k gold daytona with the black newman dial and red has marks! Why? Because I don't see that many around, and I already have my everyday SS watch. The gold Daytona I speak of is unique, and I'm a car guy at heart in alignment with its pedigree! Cheers!

I would say SS Sub but you could also say TT jubilee DJ. These are your most common country club watches, I think.

Yellow gold is out? I've never been one to go with so called the masses. If I did, I would wear some cheap watch and dress in cheap clothes! I'll stick with rolex's and Paul&Shark thanks :)

Stainless Steel Sub (Pure Sub, sans date, sans cyclops!)
I'll admit that I also consider a Date Just (especially TT) to be QUINTESSENTIAL... I just don't like them! Sub...! All day long!
