I'm not sure about G2- but I do have a Droid-X and really like the Android platform...and I was coming from a Blackberry myself!

My son just bought the HTC Thunderbolt. He loves it. He came from a BB Storm 2. I have the Storm 2 and I am waiting for the Motorola Bionic to come out. Then I will compare the HTC and Bionic to see which I want. The battery life of the HTC is not great but no 4G phones will probably do well in that area. The Storm 2 is worthless for internet browsing. It is a very outdated phone. Android is the way of the future, no doubt about it. It will far surpass Apple in sales due to the varieties that are possible. Apple keeps you within their vision of what you should have. Android gives a much more varied experience. The HTC even comes with an awesome over sized battery that gives great battery life.
There is a Google Talk feature which is a fine substitute for BB Messenger. |

I forgot to mention that the Android platform also supports Flash. A definite advantage over the iPhone
