Imagine finding this out

Today is the birthday of a good friend and have known him from back in our early schooldays . I called him at his home just after lunchtime to wish him a happy 50th birthday .
He said that the party was not really how he hoped it'd to be . His brothers family worries being the cause .
Fredo is a real funny and outgoing guy and he went on to tell what the problem is ..
His brother Carl has been married for 25 years and that union produced 4 children . He always had some doubt about if he fathered the last born daughter because the physical resemblance compared to his other children is not really there at all .
Since his wife has filed for divorce he thought it was a good idea to check with a test that can be bought over the counter in Germany if his youngest daughter was his or not . Easy test : Saliva samples of the youngest daughter and his on the sticks , sealed and it goes of via post to Germany and after about 6 weeks he got the verdict back in the post . ... 99,8 % sure to be his daughter . All seemed well .. or did it ?
Now , the rest of the story .. When he was shopping around to get one of those tests he initially bought one over the internet , as the test never got to his house he assumed that he got ripped off and left it at that . A friend brought him the test back from Germany a week later . The test bought on the internet arrived weeks after he got the test back from the "German" one .
So what to do with the spare test ?
You guessed it .. as the youngest daughter is his but does not resemble his 3 other daughters at all .... hmmm
Got it ! .. he did the test on his second daughter . Result comes back 8 weeks later ... NOT A HOPE IN HELL THAT SHE IS HIS
Same week he drove to Germany to get 4 more tests .. The 2 other girls got subjected to the same test and also the 2 girls that already had the test done just to double check .. result came back last week . 3 oldest daughters are NOT his .. only the youngest is confirmed as being his .
What I understand these tests are not legally valid in Switzerland so now he will have to try and get a judge to order an official test in Switzerland .

My friend said that when his brother announced all this officially this morning to quite a few family members and friends present for the birthday party .. he said that the reaction was the most impressive fireworks display he'd ever seen ...

What's done is done. I don't think a birthday party was the time to bring this situation up. I wonder how the three girls felt about learning that Carl was not their father during his birthday celebration.

I hope Carl can continue to love all four girls equally.

I wonder if the older three daughters have the same father or if the wife got around more than he thought.
All things considered, biology has nothing to do with being a father. If he wiped noses, read bedtime stories and cared for those children above all else then he is their father forever and no test will change that.

Hope the dad still treats the 3 girls as his daughters because that is the true way to go about that...

You could expect them to be of the same father , as Carl's suspicions came about because the last born does not seem to resemble the first 3 .

I'm curious to know if the other three daughters are from the same father?

I agree that the birthday party was not the place to do this. I can think of a few better places.

True , my friend did try to "spin" this around a bit in an humorous way when he told me the story . Still he is aware that this situation is potentially disastrous with the adults already in a nasty divorce procedure as it is .
Maybe the only bright thing is that the 3 older ones in their early 20's are no longer living with the parents , the last born of 9 or 10 still with the parents at least is his brother's natural child .

They are in their 20's? Biology means nothing at this point. He is their father.

Wow... Man... A bad situation no matter how you look at it. I am not a father, but I would throw in my opinion that regardless of what that W**re - B*T*H wife of his did, it is not those girls fault. Take it out on her, not them. (My apologies to the females of TRF for inferring those words that I did, but I don't think any of them would disagree with my assesment.

Whichever road the dad takes, he's justified in doing so. He's been put into a horrible situation, and it's unfair that he's expected to act one or another. Hopefully none of us will ever have to experience what he is.

Now what of the 3 eldest daughters? Are they going to treat him as their dad? Or will they want to know who their biological is? They may really determine whether he'll continue to be their father or not.

It's either his wife's the greatest liar who ever walked the earth or he is the most stupid person ever. How could he not know he was being deceived all those years by his wife!

Wow. I can't imagine what I'd do in such a situation.

Best of luck to him.

My take on this is that the whole affair will eventually have a financial aspect . Where my friend is the black sheep and lose canon in that family , his brother Carl is the one that runs several very successful business . Carl being 5 or 6 years older than his brother and me , I never really had much contact with him so I no idea how he will deal with this in the long run .
Like my friend said ".. my brother was never home because his business came first , me that can't be bothered with money had plenty of time to cheat on my wife .."

sounds a personal matter for the people involved, getting his anger out by sharing at a birthday party and the effect on the innocent children shows no class, nor sharing this unhappy episode on a public forum IMO

If he is going to continue to treat the three oldest children as his own, this doesn't matter IMO.

What a canyving bitch of a wife. Cut the guy some slack. At least he did not show up at the party guns blazing and all. I hope both parents go about this matter in a civilized manner for the sake of the children.
