Pam 113

I am relatively new to premium watches. I had a Rolex GMT IIc that unfortunatley was destroyed. That said, I am considering replacing with the same or a Panerai Pam 113. Can anyone provide insight on the reliability, collectibility of the watch. Finally, where is the best place online to order straps? Thanks a mil!

the watch has a simple movement thats very reliable. and most watch maker can service it as well (that's a good thing).

my ex 113, i miss it. if i can keep all the watches i like, i would still have the 113



going from GMT IIc to 113 would means losing auto winding, bracelet, hacking, GMT feature, less lume, inhouse movement and date. are you ready for these changes?

Thank you very much for the response. I would be fine with losing...the bracelet, GMT, less lume, date, (not sure what hacking is) and fine with auto winding as long as it is very accurate. I guess out of all of those considering I dont know what hacking is, the auto winding is the best feature I would be losing.

P.S. - That shot of the watch looks really nice!! I know they serve different purposes, but based on looks, reliability, cost and resale which would you chose, the rolex or pam?

If you buy used Panerai, you shouldn't lose much/any value.

The ETA 6497 movement is VERY reliable and the proverbial workhorse of the pocketwatch world. My 111 and 210 both keep time on par with my Rolex. Those are both 6497 movements.

What is also sweet is that any competent watchmaker can service them. I spend just $150 to service mine! Mind you I don't go with the polish, etc. I think Panerai look better with some scars on the case (not the dials).

hacking is the stop second when you pull the crown.

i think the hand winding movement is actually going to be more reliable because its more simple, less parts to break / can go wrong.

i like both, but if i could have only one. i would probably go with Rolex. Its just more versatile and its good for any occasion.
