Where to buy on Bahamas/St Thomas area
Have a buddy going on a private cruise in the Bahamas and he was asking me where to buy a Rolex there. He's taking his folks on this cruise and he paid for it and his Dad wants to buy him a watch while they are down there. He asked me and I have no idea and told him I would ask my friends on TRF for advice. So fire away.

AH Riise is the AD in St. Thomas I believe, with a couple of locations. In St. Maarten it's Goldfinger. Pricing is pretty good in both places, and no sales tax. AHR will have a larger selection, but they often sell out of popular models, particularly during cruise season.

A.H. Rise has two locations in St. Thomas. I had a pleasant experience last March when I bought my Explorer I.

Pricing in the Islands is consistent from AD to AD. I priced my YM at AH Riise in St. Thomas and Goldfinger in St. Maarten. Sometimes retailers will throw in a small item to make the deal but don't expect a large fluxuation in price.

A. H. Riise, downtown St. Thomas - awesome selection with great employees. Bought my DJ there. $1,600 in customs allowance per person in party that can be combined and no sales tax.

The prices in the islands aren't anything to excited about. Especially if you declare with customs. Basically no sales tax. But, you can do the same by buying out of stated and having it shipped. With other brands it is different. I bought a Zenith in St. Thomas at Little Switzerland for an unbelievable discount. Do not want to mention the discount - don't want to get LS in trouble - the discount was unbelievable. And LS and their staff are knowledgeable and a true pleasure to work with. There are 2 LS in St. Thomas.

Goldfinger in St Martin is a pretty straight shooter.
Know some prices before you go.

The wife and I returned from a two week Carribean vacation in February and visited 10 Islands. As mentioned in other posts, prices are pretty consistent, but you can try for freebies, such as a string of pearls, etc. In Grenada, I had fun working two stores in the same mall against each other for the purchase of a Philip Stein Fruitz watch for the wife, and received a further $75.00 discount and free beer from the winning store! A friend we were shopping with in Aruba bought his wife a ring and negoiated a free phone call to his daughter at home, a 12 pak of Polar beer, and a ride to the beach as part of the deal!! It's more fun than Mexico and especially Europe where no one bargains.
The wife bought a T.T. diamond dial Breitling Galactic 30 Super Quartz (she has two Rolexes) from Little Switzerland and we saved about $1,500 over the price we would have to pay at home. By the way, when you go to St. Thomas, stop in at Little Switzerland and ask if you can go upstairs to their excellent private lounge - free booze, internet, and long distance phone calls, Hoopla!! Also, cash makes rules if you can swing it. Good luck, and have fun. J. Alan |

I agree with the above. Good AD to purchase from. Good selection. Nice folks to deal with. Do your homework, know the prices, cut the deal. No tax, list prices lower than US, good discount, your choice to declare or not at Customs. Many people just wear it home.

I gave him the info. I have told him about all the great sellers here but he is kinda of an impulse buyer. He needs to feel it and hold it and leave with it. To each is own. I know that I am gonna stay right here for my future purchases.
