Questions before I buy my first Rolex's
I'm starting to shop for our first Rolex's. I'm interested in either the SS Sub w/date & black face 16610 or the fullsize SS YM 16622. She's interested in the ladies datejust TT model 179173 or the SS model 179160. Now for the questions: when buying 2 watches will they give you a good deal?, if so typically how much? any ballpark figures on what I would pay for 2 of these?, will they deal with you more if your paying cash vs. credit card?. Lastly, I'm in Virginia between D.C. and Richmond does anyone know of any stores to start at? I've found a place in Maryland- Alan Furman and Co. has anyone dealt with them before? Please feel free to comment and guide me in the right direction. Thanks

You have excellent taste in watches. Alan Furman is a very reputable brick and mortar set-up with genuine Rolexes. Heard only good things about them....so go ahead!! Good luck - JJ

Thanks, JJ. I called Alan Furman's to make sure they had the watches in stock that I was interested in before we made the drive. I spoke briefly with the salesperson on the phone and they said the prices listed on the website were it no haggling! I'm not sure if I should believe this or just figure that they get calls like mine all day and no real sales result from the calls. I'm hoping that if I show up that they would certainly be able to do better on the price.

Heck yes they better give you a better deal if you're buying two watches, especially if you're paying cash! I guess they don't have to, but smaller AD's would probably jump all over that and swing you a pretty sweet offer, especially on the TT ladies model. Alan Furman is a great route to go, specifically if you're local. The drawback to using them is that they're not an AD, so you void your manufacturer's warranty, but Alan Furman will back that up with a lifetime warranty of their own, I believe. In fact, you could probably save some extra scratch by nixing the sales tax if he mails it to you out of state. Good luck!!

OK, I need you guys input here. I went to my local AD and looked at the following watches: YM 16622 for $6,965 out the door or 16610 SS Sub w/date for $4,800 out the door and the misses looked at the TT Ladies date just 179173 with silver face and date with new hidden clasp band for $5200 out the door. The AD said we can get out of the sales tax if I ship to a friend of mine in Maryland.
Do the prices seem fair? I've got to decide between the YM and the SS Sub, decisions-decisions! Will the Sub or YM hold its value better over time? Please share your input. Thanks |

As for value holding, the SS Sub-date will hold its value the best of the lot. Good luck - JJ

I'd give it a shot and ask for 10 percent on the deal
Welcome to the FINEST Rolex Forum of the world, period.

Hi friend'
My only advice is buy from Rolex Auhtorised Dealer: such a great royal experience. You may save a couple hundred on grey market, but in the long run you will look back and miss the experience and owning from straight from rolex. Plus you will always feel 99.99 % compared to the 100% feeling of the AD. |

Welcome to TRF....
Not directly compatable I know, but I've just bought two Rolex watches from the same AD in England over the space of a month, and they gave me 5% off a Sub non date and 7.5% off a GMT II (Pepsi). This was the 5th AD I tried....the rest giving a mixture of the usual "rolex won't let us discount" Keep trying different places until you get the answer you want. |

Copiam,
Don't know that much about the east coast but those are better numbers than you can get in Vegas from the typical AD's, and here you don't see a discount on sport watches. You could possibly get 5-10% on the DJ's. So, if you do the math.....you're lookin' pretty good. I have not heard of a price increase coming. They jumped quite a bit just before Christmas, so if you can find a slow dealer......last years watch at last years prices |

Anytime you can get a SS sub/date for less than retail from an AD, you are doing well. Every one I talked with in 4 different states said they would not discount the sub/date at all.
YMMV |

Sorry, I should have been more clear in my earlier post about the prices.
The AD's list on the YM was $8,325 my price 6,965 which is roughly 16-17% off. The SS Sub list was $5,175 my price $4,800 which is roughly 7.5% off. The ladies date just listed for $6,525 my price $5,200 which is roughly 20-21% off. Let me know if this helps to clarify the prices and if I'm getting a good deal. Thanks |

I'm going back this Saturday to speak with the AD and see how much more he'll come off the prices. Hopefully, he'll work with me and I'll be a proud papa to one of these three a SS/Plat YM, SS sub w/date or TT gold/ss sub with date. I'll keep you posted.

The deal is in the works
Well, I went to see my AD today and had to order the misses 179173, it will be here in about 2 weeks. That means I've got 2 weeks to decide between the SS Sub w/date 16610 or the 16622 YM. I'm looking at 20% off on hers and the YM and we're back and forth at 10% on the Sub. I'll keep ya posted.
