Icon20 Iphone 5 in September??

Apple to ship new iPhone in September: sources

Quote:
HONG KONG (Reuters) - Apple's next-generation iPhone will have a faster processor and will begin shipping in September, three people with direct knowledge of the company's supply chain said.

The production of the new iPhone will start in July/August and the smartphone will look largely similar to the iPhone 4, one of the people said on Wednesday.

The iPhone -- introduced in 2007 with the touchscreen, on-demand application template now adopted by its rivals -- remains the gold standard in the booming smartphone market.

Reports on the timeline of the new iPhone launch vary, though it is largely expected that Apple will likely refresh its iPhone 4 later this year.

The sources declined to be identified because the plans for the new iPhone were not yet public. An Apple spokeswoman in Hong Kong was not available for comment.

The iPhone is one of Apple's most successful products, with more than 16 million sold in the last quarter of 2010 and the product accounted for more than a third of the company's sales in the quarter.

The current iPhone 4 was launched by Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs in June last year and began shipping the same month in 2010.

Apple sources many of its components from Taiwan-based suppliers, many of whom are expected to benefit from an uptick in sales as some of them rely on the U.S. company for about 20-40 percent of their business, said Vincent Chen, an analyst at Yuanta Securities.

"For some suppliers, Apple is their cash cow, or their bread and butter," Chen said.

"With all these versions being launched so frequently, it will be the so-called low-margin suppliers, such as those that assemble the phones, who will benefit the most."

Suppliers to the new iPhone include camera module maker Largan Precision Co Ltd, touchscreen panel maker Wintek Corp and case maker Foxconn Technology Co Ltd, two of the people said.

The companies would begin production either in July or August before shipping components to Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, flagship of Foxconn Technology Group, for assembly, they said.

Officials at Largan, Wintek and Foxconn declined to comment.

On Wednesday, Largan's Taipei-listed shares ended up 3.7 percent, Hon Hai rose 4.3 percent and Foxconn rose 6.6 percent, outpacing the benchmark TAIEX share index's 2 percent advance.

Apple, a big purchaser of touchscreen displays and flash memory, is also dependent on Japan for some of its key components, sparking concern that the disruption due to the crisis there may hurt its gross margins.

Apple is expected to report another spectacular quarter on Wednesday, tempered by growing caution over how supply constraints will squeeze margins and restrain iPhone and iPad sales.
Hummmmm You Guys ready for this??

I have the iPhone 4 and to me its not leaps and bounds better than the 3, so I won't be in any big hurry for the 5. Just like I have the original iPad and I'm not in the market for the iPad 2 - not enough upgrades for the money.

Apple fans will be lined up for the new phones though. They would line up if Steve Jobs sold his old socks.

I don't think you are ready for it, especially after you got into such a state with the Apple Customer Service representative that you embarrassingly had to hang up in disgrace of yourself

Yes ...bring it on

I am due for an upgrade - but am hanging for the 5. Since the iPhone came on the market I have found them to be nothing short of fantastic. Only problem I've ever had was with the 4 and overheating - but Apple replaced that in a heartbeat and no more issues since. Brilliant phone.

I upgraded tapatalk today. It accesses the forum via www.rolexforums.com so if it isn't working properly you might have to correct the URL address from which it is accessing the forum for full functionality.

NO way I'm changing my perfectly good 1 year old Iphone 4 ... not doing it . ...this time

I have said that from the 2G version over 3G and to 3Gs and now 4 each time they come out ;; resist a month or 2 and as a good sheep I end up following the flock .
The vicious part about it is that with Iphone's it's so easy to change over . Remember the old days when changing phones you ended up fiddling with the dammed thing for days before you got the hang of it and rearranging the phone and address book , reconfiguring mail accounts etc..
Now .. plug it in and 5 minutes later you're all set . No excuse .. a 5 year old can do it

I was going to upgrade from Iphone 2 to this, but after the discovery of the secret file on the phone that log and store where you have been I feel that Apple can go **** itself.

I think even with the stock rom it is a fantastic phone, the only thing is it only offers push email with Gmail!! Blackberry beats it for that reason alone;-)

Bring it on!!! I am ready!!! I can't wait to see the specs. There is nothing wrong with my iPhone 4, but I am always going to upgrade to the next generation iPhone when it's released.

I'm quite happy at the moment as my Service Provider has just cut my monthly charge by half with unlimited everything.....Scared once you're out of contract

So - I'll stick with my wife's 4 (she has my 3GS)....and wait to see come the 5 in Sept....I may go HTC or Samsung if they feel good. Mustn't look now..I like new things way too much

I am sure there will be idiots abound waiting in line for two or three days to get a phone. I will never get the mindset of waiting in line for days for an electronic device.

production might be a problem if they cant get certain parts from japan. so expect a long leadtime.

as for the iphone 5, i might hold on and take a look. i just hope there is a hole in the OS for jailbreaking because i rely on a jailbreak to customise the phone the way i like it

I just bought a 4G HTC Thunderbolt from Verizon. Fantastic phone. But I was coming from a BB Storm 2 which is a piece of junk. Several friends who have iPhones have looked at the Thunderbolt and decided to switch. They like it way more. I cannot say as I have never had an iPhone but then I am not a Jobs fanboy. If he brings out a purple iPhone 4 tomorrow people will line up around the corner to buy it.

I must admit I am unclear on the Love all you Apple guys give. It reminds me of the Jim Jones cult. You know the one where they all went to Ghana and took Cool Aid.
