Yes. My wife's DJ is old enough to have them. Beautiful!
BTW Mike, on that dial, is the lettering and coronet also made with luminous material?

Open is really nice, but combined with that dial, it's a killer, beautiful Mike, thanks very much. Gilt & mini hand, can't get much better than that :)

As Steve and Padi said that's a gilt dial. Here's a the pic of the whole watch. Rolex seens to have phased out the gilt dial around 65 to 66 or 7. Of course with Rolex there's no hard and fast rule. Such a shame so many of these old dials and hands were lost to service over the years. This one carries a 1.3 mil. ser. no. non-hacking, non-quick-set. Last edited by mike; 21 May 2007 at 12:47 AM.. Sorry, just couldn't figure out what "opens" meant till I read the thread.
Sorry again....prefer the GOLD surrounds around the markers - be they WG or YG. JJ

Love the open digits on the datewheel of that vintage GMT....reminds me of my "Grail Watch" the 1655 Explorer II. Now I just have to wait for Spark to come around and post pictures of it to drive me crazier...

GUYS! You got it all wrong! By "opens" he means the "open 6 and 9's" in the DATE aparture! Seriously, that is what I think he means

To be honest, JJ, I thought the same as you to begin with. But then it suddenly struck me what he meant.
I once had a Sub Date with the open dates. I miss it very much. It was the one I traded for a 5513 in Portobello Road in London!

Even I feel the markers much better surrounded with gold, without gold they seem pretty incomplete to me
