Was your first luxury watch a rolex?

Just curious to find out how many of you bought a rolex for your first luxury watch. when I was younger Rolex was the only brand that I knew as "the" watch to own. However my first luxury watch i purchased was a corum followed by a few breitlings. I really tried to hate Rolex because I felt that it was a brand that was too common, however the older I get, I cant help but be drawn towards wanting to own this brand. I guess you could say Im somewhat of a convert.

did most of you have a similar experience?

First was Rolex, then Omega. Then I sold the Omega to add another Rolex.

I'd been given some other luxury watches from my parents but the first one I bought for myself was my SS Daytona.

Growing up I was fortunate enough to receive some beautiful watches by my parents including Gucci and Tag Heuer. The first luxury watch that I bought for myself however was a SS Cartier Santos, which I wear every day. Still love the design now as much as the day I bought it!

i would define "luxury watch" as anything mechanical costing more than $1,000. in that case, mine would be my Baume & Mercier Capeland, which i still own and cherish.

yes, GMT II in 1984.
My beloved Seiko Analog Chronograph Sports 100 does not count as a luxury watch.

My first luxury watch was a 14K gold Hamilton tank from my Dad. It was his college graduation watch.

totally agreed bscepter. anything mechanical over a grand.

@speedo - i too find my style changing and as of late i cant seem to stop thinking about a Rolex. i really like the new subc. i think its the need to have something that is less flashy and large. currently i own a corum admirals cup chrono, b4b motors t speed and Breitling Super Avenger. The Subc would be a great contrast to all of this. and something that would fit underneath a shirt.

I guess later will appreciate dress watches which at the moment do not sing to me no matter the complication, price tag or brand.
