Carl f bucherer good brand.

Hello

I am inquiring about Carl f. Bucherer. I know a little about this brand. From what I know they seem to be relatively new in watchmaking but have a history in jewelry. Also they have now become a manufateror with there model afb1000, that seems to have a really cool peripheral rotor so it doesn't instruct the movement. The questions I have are how is it in person(never actually seen one in the flesh.) ? What movements do they use in there other watches is it there own or a modified eta/valljoux etc? They also seem to be pretty expensive for just stainless steel watches. Do tha AD offer a hefty discount on them? Also regarding price the model with the in-house movement is I believe 14k msrp is that right? And if so are they quality enough to be in the same class as AP and PP. Thanks for any info.

I don't know much about the mechanical aspect but I would like to say that I think they have the nicest rectangle watches out there. I was thinking of getting a Tank but once I saw the Bucheres I hit a wall and had to get a new dive watch until I make up my mind, ( which Buchere to get not cartier vrs Buchere decision) as far as them being new 1888 is their start date so not very new in the big picture, I am not familiar with their evolution over time but they have been around for over a century.

The watches look very nice in person. However, I think the price is too high. I would rather spend the money on a JLC.

Meh. Most of their movements are ETA with a crap-ton of modules stacked on top of it. Pretty bad if you ask me.

If they were in the 1k range they'd be worth it. Where the prices are now? Definitely not for their ETA based watches.

Their in-house movement is interesting but really nothing too special. A bit of a gimmick really. You can go ahead and get one, but the finishing isn't up to the quality of other brands in their price-range and I would prefer a BP or JLC.

To me in person they look very nice and of high quality. The prices are high with a very low re-sale value.

If you want something really unique try to look into independent watchmakers. You will find uniques watches, with (sometimes) outstanding quality at lower prices than big blockbusters brands.

Why? If you like the particular watch why not get it. They make a nice looking watch.

when i was looking for my first "luxury" watch almost 3 years ago, i was also looking at one of the Carl F Bucherer watches.

i have only seen it once at an Dubai AD, and couldnt find it anywhere else, so gave it up in the end.

unique looking - on a more affordable scale, i'd say Azimuth

http://www.azimuthwatch.com/

or... if on a higher/unlimited budget - i'd go with any of the Urwerk watches

Id pass......
If you really find one you can't live without buy it previously owned
so if you tired of it you can sell it without loosing too much.

Carl F Bucherer isn't a brand to be bought used....they arent that high priced anyway....brands such as PP, Breguet, AP, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin...and others of this league are worth looking at buying previously owned watches...the TravelTec is one of the best watches made by CFB and isn't too hard on the pockets...also...although it started as a jewellery maker, they've been into watchmaking since 1919....thats over 90 years of watchmaking experience!

I recall that name in watch windows in Geneva years ago. I don't know if it was the name of the jeweler or the name of watches in the window next to the Rolexes and Tudors.

Bucherer is a name of a shop (pic is Bucherer in Luceren)

Carl F Bucherer is a watch manufacturer, but opened the Bucherer shop in 1888 in Luceren

At 10K Blancpain and JLC are good. If you wanna go with an independent, it's hard to find one with an in-house at that price-range.

This is not meant as a knock on Bucherer, but in the $10,000 price range you shouldn't have to ask about the brand's reputation. In that range are too many very high quality watches for Bucherer to compete.
