Buyer's Remorse???
I just purchased my first Rolex. A stainless steel, black face daytona. I love the watch, but haven't taken the plastic off yet. After sitting on waiting lists for over 6 months at nearly 30 stores I finally paid a premium to get one in my hands.
I bought it from a buddy's friend in New York that told me it was a 2011, brand new watch. Now I start learning more and am wondering what I really got. The serial starts with a V which appears to be from 2008, and the bracelet has LT5 which appears to be 2009. Nothing appears worn on it, so being new isn't an issue - but is this thing legit? Also, do the new bracelets not have the bracelet codes on them? My paperwork has a bracelet #, but nowhere on the bracelet do I see it. How can I tell if this thing is the real deal or if I got took? As soon as I have this confidence I think I'll be sleeping in this thing. Thanks for the help. |

V is a current serial number... They were first seen in the marketplace in 2008... that's all a chart can tell you, not how many years after that they were produced...
Bracelet clasps no longer have the part number on them.. You need to take the bracelet off and look at the end-link to see the part number...

Always best to trust the seller, sounds as though you bought from someone who you really don't trust.
May want to take it to a Rolex AD who will verify the authenticity of your watch. Best to have your confidence restored. Posting some PICs here might help us help you a bit as well. Whether it is 2008 or 2011 it wont matter. There are no real differences in regards to features between the 2 years.

Post a picture of your clasp and we can tell you if it is upgraded clasp or not. Or better yet if you open the clasp and you see what looks like a raised circle and a hole then it is not the upgraded clasp

Post some pics Congrats on your new Daytona, it is a beautiful watch What amount of a "premium" did you pay for this? I purchased one at my AD a couple of months ago, no waiting list whatsoever

Does the plastic on the side opposite the crown have that black thingy?
Are they now faking plastic, too? Man oh man. |

See if this works. I'm an idiot when it comes to technology so not sure if this works. And the other thing I immediately realize is how un-artistic I am compared to all you guys with your photos.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/62759752@N05/5714495225/ There's 3 photos on there. Also, paid 12k - but avoided tax and shipping was included. So all-in-all I think I did okay. I definitely should trust the guy that sold it to me - just never can be too sure with all the scams you read about on here. Can't wait to get this thing sized and show it off to everyone. |

Welcome to to TRF.
Hmm. You bought it from a friend of a friend. Is this guy a full-time dealer? Did he buy it new? Is his name on the warranty card - or is it blank? Hard to say what's what in this case to be honest. |

It is also very easy to size with the correct screwdriver to remove any necessary links however an AD can do this for you too

Well looks like things ended well but they coudn't have. Next time, make sure you do your research and ask this board for a possible price range and BUY THE SELLER first.
Congrats on a great watch! |

The watch may be legit, but is the seller
A few other thing to worry about besides it being real. Just food for thought.
I may have missed the thread, but do you have papers? It may be a remote chance, but without papers, it may be hot. You just dont want to find out 3 yrs from now when you send it to a servicing center and they tell you its reported stolen. Without papers, you dont have the Rolex warrantee that you would have if you purchased it from an AD. Realistically, you probally bought it from a guy who is making an "investment" in the watch and flipping it on you for a profit. No problems there except if the watch was purchased by original owner back in 20xx, the warrantee card was mailed in and the clock is ticking on the warrantee period. A warrantee is worthless as long as nothing goes wrong, and can be worth thousands if there is a problem. |

I too just purchased a Black dial Daytona. It also was a V series. I think Rolex stamped a huge number of cases with "V" and are still working their way through them. I wouldn't worry.

If you've never spent that much on a luxury item, it's only natural for you to have a little buyer's remorse. You probably received new old stock, which is perfectly normal. Take the stickers off and enjoy your new Daytona!
