Rolex GMT II
I've been searching for the right Rolex GMT, at first I was considering to purchase pre-owned GMT 2003 or 2005 and I was willing to spend under 4k, now I feel like as might as well cough up few thousand more and get the new GMT 116710. What's you guy's take on this... anyone?

Bite the bullet and purchase the new 1! I'm honestly in love with the 116710; from the solid bracelet, ceramic bezel with platinum embossed numerals, to the green "GMT Master II" on the dial. The polished center links are neat too, but not a complete necessity IMO.
GO FOR THE NEW 1! -Kyle |

you really cant go wrong with either... the 16710 Pepsi/Coke dials or 116710 ceramic bezel... both great the extra money buys you a better clasp & bracelet on the GMTc...

I have an old GMT (16750), and a new ceramic one. They are both fine pieces, but I would really sit back and think which one YOU like. A late model 16710 is pretty darn hard to beat, but the 116710 bezel font and green lettering takes a bit to get used to... The clasp on the ceramic trumps the old one... but a F or about 16710 can be had for a few bucks cheaper...
Best of luck, but I could argue for either!

i had the 16710 coke first, then i got the 116710. i went back to the older style and got the first generation gmt2, which is the 16760. you can't go wrong with either 16710 or the 116710. some people prefer the older style and people like the new model. it's YOUR pick.

well, at almost two times the price (assuming you can find one at the budget you want, which might be tough), the gmtIIc would have to really SING to me, and it doesn't....just not a fan of the lugs, the bezel font, the green text and hand, the PCLs....so, i'd get a pre-ceramic and use the savings to look for the next score.
good luck with the hunt! |

I have to say I love my older one, but the new one with the green, new bracelet on it, it's pretty bad ass.

I used to wear a SS DJ for a couple of years. For some reason, maybe the size or the basic functionality, I never fell in love with it. Recently I bought a GMT IIc and now, after one month wearing it, I can tell you that I am completely satisfied: the size is rigth for my average wrist size, and the gmt functionallity, accuracy and craftmanship are awesome.
One could say, as a criticism, that it's a fashionable, trendy watch, but, anyway, who doesn't like to be "in"? |

Either model would be an excellent choise. I have the newer GMT IIc and am very happy with it. It was my first Rolex. That being said, I would also still like to pick up a nice pepsi or coke 16710.

I have a hard time putting it into words, but I love putting on my GMT IIC. It is so smooth an sleek. The high quality bracelet, PCLs and ceramic add so much.
However I wouldn't mind a coke one day, but if only one then the 116710 for me. |

I like the old one, but LOVE the new one. The ceramic bezel with large font numbers still sings to me every time I am wearing that watch - even after the 3.5 yrs of owning it. That completed with the maxi dial, green writing, green 24 hr hand, maxi case (that really works for the GMTiic), clasp etc make it the choice for me.
I am sure that some of the vintage guys will beg to differ though |

When Rolex can manufacture a pepsi bezel l may consider new. Would be optimum with Lug Holes!

I have the IIc also and enjoy it. I wish the bracelet was a litte wider at the lugs. I think Rolex mssed having the perfect watch. But, wear it just about every day.

You really need to try both on. I bought a GMTc to flip, and ended up keeping it. I dont like it in the box, but love it on. I've had several 16613 blue subs come and go- love them in the box, but not on- heck, I just bought ANOTHER one, thinking I might have changed my mind, but nope- still not IN LOVE with it. I am wearing it now, and am like, naaaaaaa, but I know when I take it off and look at it, I will like it better. Weird yes, but true! LOL!
Try some one, you might be surprised what you will like in the end! GOOD LUCK!

I bought mine and I love the way the plc "connect" to the shiny ceramic bezel. I look forward to wearing it every day. I also have a pepsi gmt, but I guess I am one of those modernistas!! GMT IIc all the way.

You need to really sit down and decide which one you really, really want.. and which one you want to put on your wrist every morning.. As far as I can see, they are two completely different looks...
I love GMT's.... I have a bunch of them... However, the new 116710 - I just can't wrap myself around it.. From the in-your-face bezel font, to the block case lugs and green trim..... not to mention those blinged up polished center links... ... nope.. I've bought my last new one; no GMT ceramic for me..

I have a 16710 and naturally I think it's great. The GMT IIC is finally growing on me but I still dont like the green writing and 24 hr hand.

Artie,
I made the mistake and went with the GMTIIc initially. I did not like the ceramic bezel (too fragile), the almost invisible green fourth hand, and the PCLs. Fortunately I was able to undo the deal and eventually wind up with the classic M/3186 16710 coke. I love it! Fr. John† |

This is not easy, but the pleasure from the GMT16710 at its current price in the used market of around $4k is wonderful. Pepsi, Coke, or black....your call. The GMT116710 is considerably more expensive, and if acquired new, the price differential is almost enough to the penny to buy a used 14060 as well (another superb model). GMT116710 has nice features no question, but then they were not enough for me to buy. Enjoy either in good health.

Just make sure it is a red, not green, hand.

If the GMT IIc only had a red accents instead of green, I'd buy one but I can't get passed the green. Just doesn't do it for me. For that reason I'd go Pepsi, and have the option of switching out bezels (coke, lv)

I have a 16710 new to my collection, about to be sent too me once the service is complete. I love lug holes and the classic two tone bezel. This to me is a iconic, classic and instantly recognisable piece to WIS. And more importantly to me a watch that I am going to really enjoy wearing.
See you are going down the new path, look at purchasing from a trusted seller on the forum, saving a few $. If you were to purchase a earlier 16710 you would loose next to no $ if you decided it wasn't for you, a little further down the track. All the best |
