Need help with prices
Hello All,
The time is at hand - my first Rolex! And it's going to be a SS Sub. I can't wait. However, here is the thing: I want the 16610, not the newer 116610 (cerachrom bezel, etc) . I just like the look better. So, I find an independent jeweler who has a new 16610. The price is $7100.00 - and that's if I give him cash!! I did not think it was going to get that high. I only wanted to drop 5k - perhaps I was dreaming/wishful thinking. So, I need advice. The supply may be low on the 16610, and I guess a lot of guys may want that old one too, so I understand them being expensive, but is $7100 too much in this case? Should I keep looking? Anyone know what a new (never used) 16610 might command at this point? I mean think about it - the MSRP at an AD for the newer one (116610) is 8000.00! that's not far off from 7100.00 for the 16610. Even though the inside of the 116610 is better, I just like the outside of the 16610 better - and after all, it's the outside we will be looking at for the rest of our watch wearing lives! So any advice is welcome. Do I take it? Am I getting ripped off? Is it in the neighborhood? Do I keep shopping around? Thanks to all! Clocker Bob |

I think it's too much. I think most of the sellers here on the forum will have it for less.

Welcome to TRF . I think 7100 is way high. I would look at the for sale section here and just wait until the right deal came along. I think you will be able to find one for 5000 to 5500. Good luck on your hunt.

You shouldn't have any problem at all finding a very nice, two or three-year-old 16610 Submariner here on the forum for $5,000. Check the classifieds! Good luck.
On, by the way, welcome to the forum. There are many great people here on The Rolex Forum and some great sellers in the Classified section.

WALK AWAY, thats crazy The Sub 16610 was produced in VERY LARGE numbers for years. There are SEVERAL lnib examples right here on TRF for the 5-5800 range. Save your $$$ and grab one and forget about the $7100, you will NEVER get your $$$ back on that one

If the Jeweler is an "independent", then he his out of his mind.. He can't really sell you a "new" watch, and had to get it from an authorized Dealer in the first place, so it that technically a used piece..... yes it is.....
If you want one from a reseller, then there are sellers on TRF who will give you the same watch at a better price............. or any real authorized Dealer if you can find one in stock....

I just paid $6,637.00 for the 116610 4 weeks ago, (two days before the price increase)
$7,100.00 seems way high. |

Agree with the others, it's definitely too high. MSRP on those only got up to $6000. Since they aren't supplied by Rolex anymore I don't think the recent price increase should raise the price of it. You'll have no problem finding one on here for around $5000.

One word.........DavidSW.
Look him up here on the FS section. Don't waste your money buying one for that kinda money. Buy one that is slightly used for ~$4,500. There is NO WAY on this earth that I would pay over $7,000 for a 16610.

A 16610 D or later are in the $4,900 - $5,800 range. Check the trusted sellers here on TRF.
I have noticed that lately there are a lot less 16610 for sale than just three months ago.

It seems to me that the independent had a 16610 on the window for some years and decided to raise its price close to the price of the new model 116610.
Keep away from him as the asking price is extremely high for this watch. |
