random thought - platinum Day-Date .......
Being that platinum is, well, platinum, is the bracelet on that day-date immune from stretch over time?

The PT bracelet will stretch less than the gold one, but it will!
As far as I know, also the pins and screws are also Pt in the bracelet - they could not put the 950/- hallmark into it, if they where not. |

Lets get thing straight metal does not stretch, what happens if not kept clean dirt and grit gets in around the pin holes. Then the friction movement of daily wear grinds the dirt grit etc and elongates the link pin holes. But if kept clean cannot see why any type of metal oyster bracelet could not last 20- 30 plus years.

As above, "stretch" is really wear. Platinum should wear slower than 18k gold and with good care, should last a lifetime. If I was ready to buy, I'd look hard at platinum over white gold. It should hold up better and potentially save you a bracelet replacement 20 years down the line. That's probably $10k now, no?

$10k for 6 links only Yes, it is well worthy to get platinum over white gold in the long run, if you ask me. And that thingy is very heavy....which you could feel the US bills are freely hanging on the wrist as a reminder.....what a Rolex means

I meant that a replacement white gold bracelet would be in the 10k range. You could factor that into the decision to go with the platinum premium. It may be even more. I would try to find a nice pre owned Platinum DD.

all the year 2000 onward (P serial onward?) day-date's (at least all the gold ones) have solid center links which don't stretch. you will notice these command a huge premium in the secondary market over non-solid link day dates.

and if platinum goes to $20k/ounce as some one have thought gold will be hiked $12k/ounce...then, your dd platinum is only needed to sell at melt metal price....to bring your damaged back plus profit from that previous 20 years

They do stretch, and I've been told that unlike gold bands, they cannot be fixed. Anyone have any experience with this?

If worn to loose every metal bracelet will stretch. So clean your bracelets and wear them tight and you'll be fine... |
