Do 'older' rolex watches have that same crisp feeling?

I stopped at an AD today and asked to see thesubmariner 14060. The watch they handed me was still wrapped in plastic and when they took it out it had a very crisp feeling to it. This was only like the 10th rolex I ever got to hold but most of them also had this crisp feeling.

My question is, if you buy a brand new in box older serial number watch, such as a P/K/Y serial, would it be 100% exactly the same as a BNIB Z or M serial? (given the model has not changed off course!)

Or did rolex improve their polishing/finishing process over the years? Did the edges become more crisp?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

All of these Rolex that you are refering to are made of the same material, which is 904L SS. If you send an older Rolex to Rolex service center, they will polish it and make it fresh/crisp again.

They feel like new after a service, mine is 21 years old and feels like it just came from the AD yesterday.

Depends on how anal you are. Polishing will inevitably wear down those chamfers...

My 25 year old Exp II feels as "crisp" today as it did then! After service, it "appeared" new but there was no difference in the feeling.

no they have a beautiful, worn, buttery feeling, and its good.

although sharp edges are nice, its also nice when the natural wear dulls them just a bit like an old pair of jeans.

To answer the actual question there should be no difference between the new ones regardless of serial number. There shouldn't be any difference in finishing. I saw a 1982 mint explorer 2 the other day and other than the patina of the tritium you wouldn't be able to tell it from any new rolex (and that's almost thirty years ago!).

Yeah but some fluted bezels and submariner/gmt edges seem to be too soft sometimes...

If you had me close my eyes, I would say the feel is nearly the same. Maybe less bracelet squeak in the older ones.

If it's been maintained well it should be.

And how about the chamfers? Do modern rolex watches still have these? Or F and D serial?
