So who else here is craving a WHITE Exp-II?

You guys must really think I'm nuts, uh?

In August 2004, I had in fact picked up a white Exp-II; but when I took it home, discovered (to my horror) that it had a large gash across the black coronet on the dial (when I checked under a 10x loupe).

I was so disgusted that I took it back, but no replacement was possible as the papers had already been signed and stamped.

So the AD sent it off to Rolex HQ, Melbourne for a dial replacement. The watch comes back 10 days later with a dial marked only SWISS. Obviously, someone cocked up in Melbourne.....so back went the watch for a proper dial.

Finally it came back 3 weeks later with the correct SWISS MADE dial. All this run around pissed me off and I finally sold off that DEVIRGINISED watch after a few months.

Now I crave it back, especially after I tried on a brand new, Z-series one this morning.

JJ

I agree...You and I are in a bit of a fuddlement about this white face thing. I am, however, going to go dress watch this time and exp ll time after next. White faced watches are intriguing me. But some of the new faces....like the blue waters face. Jeez.....crazy love.

My story is very similar. Got the Explorer II white in April and enjoyed the clean crisp design until I found a fleck on the dial. Went back and got it fixed and adjusted the hands. But the back was scratched from the ordeal, they polished it. But round polished edges on my new watch - first Rolex - I don't think so. Got the GMT II TT and haven't found any flaws - so no excuse to ugrade.

But I still think the Explorer is a must have in its simple beauty.

Sincerely
Sune

Thanks, Sune. Yes, white dials are best scrutinised very carefully with a powerful loupe right there and there in front of the AD before payment is made.

I know how your feel, having my black Exp II on my wrist everyday since May-07 feels great. Especially right after you get out of the movie Ocean's 13, which featured a White Exp II.

You gotta get it back period!

JJ; as I write in your other Exp. II thread, I think you might get irritated by that minute winding crown it has

I mean: You have your TT Blue Sub and you are used to handle that perfectly sized winding crown.

That is one of the reasons why the GMT (old ones, since the new GMT has a larger crown) and the Explorer II are not my cup of tea.

Just my 2 cents

I want one. Would be a great everyday watch for work when I don't want to draw attention to it or get my balls busted for having a Rolex by my co-workers.

Having a white dial Rolex would be great too as the others are blue or black.

I think I want one but I'm not 100% sure yet - I seem to have had 'a thing' for white dialed watches lately as I have added two white dial Tudor's this week alone! when will it ever end????

Explorer II

Hi JJ

I have been advised that you may offer me some advise concerning white face Explorer II. I am presently the proud owner of GMT II and on waiting list for SS daytona !!.

I am considering purchasing the above watch, I know it is a matter of opinion JJ but could you tell me the pros and cons (if any) of the explorer II and the availability here in the UK.

Hope you can help. PS Even though I am English I am a citizen of Australia, I know. I know, lived there for the past three years, have you forgiven them for the underarm incident yet, I haven't.

Cheers

I have both a White dial and Black Dial Exp II. FInd the Black dial version easier to read in low light conditions. The white dial version, it is hard to see the minute hand in low light I have found. But, the white dial version does show the fingerprints and smudges less on the crystal as well. Both are due to the white background. The White Exp II would be far better if they made it with bigger hands with more lum and more contrast. It is a nice looking watch and is dressy and casual both. The Bezel really blends into the bracelet and it seems smoother and slimmer than the other Rolex watches.

If you measure with a caliber you will find the diameter of the Exp II is actually 39mm instead of 40mm. ALso the twin lock crown is a little easier to manipluate than on the GMT II, as the Exp II bezel stops before the crown guards/crown starts. WHere as on the GMT the bezel covers a little bit.

I am saving for a pre-owned white dial Exp II. I keep getting sidetracked though. I saw a great photograph of an Omega Seamaster GMT white dial and lay awake half the night wondering if it is better for me to go for the Omega SM GMT. In terms of cash, I would get to purchase it sooner. The Exp II will be some months way yet.

Wife says I should persevere with the Rolex plan as she reckons I will only get a recurrence of flip fever with anything less.

Once you go "white" you know it's "right".
Wht. Exp. II is my daily wearer over all others!
I've been told "you can tell it's a Rolex" seeing how the crystal gleems in the sunlight!
Makes me happy to say the least.

I tried one on and found the dial very hard to read with my failing eyesight, I'm afraid it would have to be a black face for me.

Glad to see you've got your "Rolex Mojo" back again, JJ.

That doesn't worry me at all, Bo. With 19 different Rollies under my belt, I'm pretty much used to BOTH crowns!!

Yes, Chad....you are right about the 39 mm size. But it's an extremely comfortable watch to wear and time readability with the white dial is a cinch!! The black hands on the white background are so easy and quick to read!!
