I'm thinking about getting my first Rolex in the not too distant future. :P

I've always loved the Daytona, but after reading some less posetive reviews on it (mainly on these forums

) I'm not quite certain it's the right watch for me.

So I was wondering; what do you guys think might be the best Rolex to begin with? I'm a fan of "bigger", heavier watches; normally chronographs, but I figured it might be time to move on to something a bit different.

Also, I love the two-tone ones and I'm a big fan of black or blue dials (depending on the watch in general); right now I'm using a Jaques Lemans Chronograph with a blue dial (I love it but I've always felt a "need" for a Rolex)

Not sure what non-positive reviews you've heard about the Daytona, other than people complaining it doesn't have a date.
If you've got your eye on it, it's only a matter of time before it bites you hard.
Why not find a pre-loved at a great price here in the FS section.

I love the look of the Daytona. I don't own one, but it's my favorite Rolex.

The best way to start in my opinion is to first check the Rolex Website to get an idea It (wont show you everything). You can check the for sale section here to get an idea, but you should check them out in person at the AD regardless where you actually buy it from. You really should see them in person before you buy one.

But make sure you buy it when you do from someone you can trust regardless.

Get the one that makes you smile the most.

Get the Submariner. It's a popular watch and almost everybody has one.

Yeah, that's exactly what made me uncertain; I'm so used to having a date, and I never really thought about the lack of it on the Daytona until I read that. :P Still though, it made me think that there might be some other interesting watches other than the Daytona (for example the Sub, which is a watch I recently became a fan of).

If you like big watches, you can try the DSSD, but if you want something TT, i will suggest the GMT II C/ SUB C

Yeah I know what they all look like, been a fan for a long time. And I have also seen them IRL. The problem is; all of them are great.

I'm just having a hard time making my mind up. :P

best thing to do, visit your local AD and start trying models and see which puts a smile on your face the most. Goodluck!

First should be Sub-C. Go try a bunch on then buy here on TRF.

First- welcome to TRF! Second- you are going to let a handful of haters influence whether or not a Daytona is for you? Third- who cares what anyone thinks- go to an AD and try a bunch on and get you like! Don't listen to a bunch of people you don't know on a forum- listen to yourself!!

If you like the Daytona (and money`s not an issue) - why the heck not?

It`s a remarkable watch, powered with Rolex`s pride and joy, cal. 4130, one of the very few in-house made automatic chronographs.

Anyway, first of all, go to the AD, try as many models as you can, and then go for the one that YOU like the most, be it Daytona or not.

Why not just get the Daytona? If you like it, who care about other people opinions. The cool thing about the Daytona, you won't lose a dime if you decide to resell it.

The Daytona is a great watch. Go to an AD to try one on and see if you love it or not.

You will narrow it down. Like said already get the one you like not the one someone else likes or thinks you should get.
