OP glass broken!!! Is it covered by warranty?
Hi all,
Was putting my OP no date on and then it slipped and fell on the floor and the glass cracked! I bought this in November 2010 new from duty free in London- naturally have all the paper work and so on. Since it's within a year- would this still be covered? If not what's the best way for me to get this fixed? Also anyone know about costs? Thank you all

I don't think it would be covered by the warranty as you dropped it on the floor...
Best thing is to send it into Rolex for a replacement crystal which is about £90, although they may only change the crystal if you have the watch serviced at the same time. This is what they said when I enquired about changing the crystal on my mothers daytona. |

Sounds good all.
I work and most of the time live in Switzerland so I guess its best for me to go to the authorized rolex dealer in Zug and ask them to send it off? Man I was so sad when I saw the glass cracked since this was the 'baby' of my collection :(

A warranty is for manufacturing defects.. Not for damage..
Rolex almost always insists on a full service for a broken crystal on the off chance that crystal shards may have found their way into the movement, so don't be surprised if that comes back in the estimate.. I have heard cases where they have done a "courtesy service" on watches still under warranty..... you still have to pay for the crystal and labor though.. Hope it's the latter for you....

100% Agree
Think about it this way...if you bought a new Mercedes and a week later backed it into a telephone pole, do you think that the damage would be covered under warranty? I don't mean to poke fun, but I can't really think of any scenario where a manufacturer's warranty would cover damage caused by the negligence of the owner. I hope you get it sorted out quickly...it is always a bummer when you drop a watch like that. I know from experience.

There is a difference between a warranty and insurance. Dropping the watch would be an insurance claim, not a warranty claim. Good luck with the repair, I hope Rolex can sort it out to your satisfaction.

A couple years ago, my sister in law purchased a brand new womans oyster no date from Mayors, a local AD chain. It was two months old and she dropped it in her closet. It hit the lip of her safe and cracked the crystal with shards falling onto the dial. Cost her about 750, full rebuild as they said glass shards could be in the mov't. Plus new crystal and they said the hands had been bent by the impact so new hands also.

Probably want to hack the movement now, just in case there are particles floating around in there.

Yeah... I don't think it's covered since it is the end-user's fault (sadly).
I gotta tell ya, we all ought to be very careful with our watches... there's been a few times where my hands slipped and I almost dropped my prized Rolexes.

Of course it's covered. After all, aren't cars covered by the manufacturer for collisions for the first year?
Sorry, it will have to be replaced at your cost. |
