questions from a new guy...

Good morning...

Brand new to the forum and I have a few questions that perhaps someone can answer for me. I own a gold and stainless steel Submariner (don't know the "code" for the watch) with a black face and have had it for about 12 years. I bought it used from a dealer in Vermont. I love the watch and rarely take it off. Toughest watch on the planet. I have never had it serviced and it runs about 3 minutes fast each month. No worries about the timekeeping and I'm hesitant to send it in because it has worked perfectly for so long. I do not know the year of the watch and am hoping someone can help. On the bracelet are the numbers 93153 and on the part that attachs to the lugs is 401 with a "B" underneath. Any idea on what these numbers/letter mean?

Two other quick questions:

I have a black Rolex leather "duffle" bag that was given to me about 6 years ago. It is fairly large and of really nice quality. The inside is green with repeating Rolex logo's on the liner. I have never seen one for sale and am wondering if these are a rare item or were/are actually sold by Rolex at some point. Does anyone know the value of such an item?

I also have a Rolex box/boxes and am wondering what the value of Rolex boxes might be.

Thanks so much for your responses.

I haven't got a clue about value of bags/boxes but a sub SHOULD be serviced regardless of timekeeping. It may have oils and lubricants gumming up or drying out that can lead to significant damage. And the gaskets may not keep out water anymore. Rather than being concerned with he value of essentially junk you should be concerned with KEEPING the value of your sub. Just my 2 cents worth.
Cheers!

Remove the bracelet at six o'clock where the serial number is
usually 7 numbers or a letter and six numbers (just give us the first two)
Also remove the bracelet and see what the reference number is
at 12
Then I will be able to tell you how old is the watch and which model
The number of the bracelet seems fine for a 16613 model with 401B end links
About service
You might spend a few hundred dollars but it will come back brand new

as is...
the value of your watch is 3400-3600 dollars.

About the bag I think it was a gift item never sold as a Rolex product
Maybe 100-300 dollars
The box maybe 30-40 dollars

Thank you for your replies gentlemen. I looked at some of the different postings and one detailed the markings on the bracelet. There is a "W5" with the same number sequence and one of the references showed that the watch was a 1995 model; which makes sense. If I get brave I will take the bracelet off to verify. Thanks again for your replies.

Thats only a approximation date when the clasp was stamped there is no such thing as year models with Rolex.Same for the serials its only a approximation when the case was stamped and not necessarily when a completed watch was shipped from factory for sale.

I would assume the watch is definitely worth more than $3400-$3600, of course depending on condition.

Without knowing a whole lot about the specific watch, I would have thrown out a $4,500 value.

When we value a 16-17 year old watch we should take into account
what this watch needs if we want to resell it.
This particular subs needs a BIG service maybe new crystal and hands
perhaps a bezel and an insert etc.
Service with normal parts start from 700 to 1200 dollars according
to the new prices that Rolex registered watchmakers now demand.
So with that in mind we can not suggest a 4500 dollar value
plus the dreaded expensive service.

Thanks again for the replies. The watch really is in great shape. A few minor scratches and a little bit of stretch on the bracelet from normal wear but the crystal, hands, bezel, ect...are great. Considering what this watch has been through over the years I'm surprised that it still looks so good. No plans to sell the piece as the only other watch I would buy would be the same thing.

You all have me worried about the watch not being serviced for so long. I would hate to send it in and then have it come back not running the way it has for so long. The only thing "broken" on the watch is that the bezel moves both ways. I have to think that's a simple fix. What does the service consist of? Should I send it to Rolex in NY or can a local guy do the deal? Is the charge a flat fee or does it depend on what they find. Sorry for the rookie questions but...I'm a rookie when it comes to knowing how the guts work.
