want to buy pre-owned Explorer--is it legit

Thanks in advance, I'm new to the forum and wanted ask the experts.

I found an explorer II i like at swiss wrist....link here : http://www.swiss-wrist.com/rolex-exp..._p0QQ2022/info

But I am scared to buy online. what do you guys think, or should I just bite the bullet and buy at local dealer?

Thanks again.

Jason

Swiss Wrist is a reputable grey dealer... I have not dealt with them personally but believe you should be just fine...

That being said this particular Explorer II seems to be polished quite heavily as you can barely see the Rolex coronet on the clasp any more... I would keep looking and check some of the TRF good guys right here in the FS section, you will most likely find a better deal too

I would just go to a AD so you will get a real one. I got my explorer at a AD and they gave me a free watch winding box and free lifetime polishing and washing for the Rolex. The polishing is $200 a pop so I think its good. Plus they gave 3 year warranty.

Meaning they are NOT a Rolex AD (Authorized Dealer)

Gray dealer is the folks Rolex does not like too well. They are not authorized dealers but they get a hold of them I guess through buying them used or other methods. You will get what you pay for anyway. I paid $6,200 + Tax for my Rolex Explorer and the buying experience was good plus you get to look at the others too.

Yes it can be a great experience at an AD but hardly worth the additional 1-2k you will pay AND LOSE on a brand new Rolex IMHO. If you cannot get a good discount yourself dont throw your $$$ away!

Grey dealers are dealers that specialize in selling anything that is NOT from someone authorized by the manufacturer to sell the item... Therefore you bypass the middleman in a sort by NOT paying the mark up at an Authorized Dealer (40-45%) of the cost of the watch with Rolex, get a better deal, the same product and have some more green in your pocket!

Buy the seller and NOT the watch and you will be just fine. There are great sellers right here on TRF that I have purchased SEVERAL watches from and had nothing but a great experience... Try Justrolexes (TONY), Bodybump (OSCAR) and DavidSW (David) just to name a few and I have had experiences will all of the above

The fact they post a photo of the over polish crown on the clasp leads me believe they are reptuble.

I agree - keep looking.

Thanks for all the advice. It is tad daunting to research all for a good purchase. Thanks for all the help, I have read several positive experiences from Davidsw, and sent him an email.

I trade securities for a living. 1 to 2k is not a big deal if I dont do it every day. I pulled off making 3k in less than a hour trading massive amounts of stock like intel by buying 3,000+ shares and doing option spreads.
