Business must be tough for some ADs

Was walking through Hay Street Mall here in Perth City and saw the Rolex AD that is usually open for trade on Sundays closed now a few Sundays in a row and its not even 1pm. I said to myself business must be really slow, whats even more weird, WA is one of the richest states of Australia due to mining. So go figure.

Market crash may slow the middle class even more from buying one. I am sure that it won't stop Rolex from raising their prices again soon though.

Could be competition from Smales in Subi.

This was the one that told me a load of garbage on the phone when I called them up asking about valuating my watches, same as the only AD in Brisbane. I was so appalled by it at that time I posted about it on TRF too

My local AD is no longer a Rolex AD. He said with the economy he's had to down-size his inventory, replace a few brands, Rolex being one of them, and reduce the square footage of his shop. Believe it or not, Rado is one of the lines he's brought in. (I know JJ would have had a great comment on that one.) But that is what this economy has done to many. And folks, I believe there will be a great paradigmatic shift in the world's view of consuming, and the grand "joy of life scale." But, that's another thread.

It will be interesting to see which ADs survive when Rolex boutiques come out.

There are only two Rolex ADs in Perth. That is a worry if one closes down as monopoly wont be good for people wanting a good bargain.

This is true. Are you guys able to buy from non-local ADs, maybe international? Just a thought but not sure how customs will look at it.

There are other avenues we purchase from and have been buying from. However, seeing an AD closed on a weekend day trade made me wonder if they are going to dissapear soon!

Why not purchase at Singapore. Can claim 7% Vat refund and won't have any problem with Singapore Customs

I agree 100%. This is already happening.

The good news is that the crashing economy should allow for some pretty good deals on preowned Rolex watches.

Unfortunate circumstances for those people who end up selling their pride and joys to be able to pay their bills due to a cash crunch.

Rosendorff certainly have a great central location John...
Maybe the cost of being open on a Sunday with all the employee penalty rates etc, isn't viable for them any longer!!

Central location that it is!
Costs to operate must be rising and it seems their margins must be getting squeezed to make their Sundays trade even more difficult for them. Oh well...

Without knowing your AD in detail, this seems to be a load of bull.

Usually, if someone has a Rolex AD, that's the basis for his business. It's the daily bread and butter for him and his company. A great part of his revenue and profit comes from Rolex, other brands add to that - nothing more.

So, if he's seriously slimming down his inventory, he'd do that with any other brand but not with Rolex.

Sounds to me like a very bad explanation, why he has lost the AD status for Rolex.

Rob,
I'd love to buy from either of the 2 local AD's, BUT they don't give me the oppotunity to do so with their outrageous prices. If I paid their prices, I can buy 3 from David and get one free.

I'd also like to buy local but the prices are pretty crazy. Just for an example Smales in Subiaco has a 16600 Sea Dweller for $12,000 and they wouldn't shift a cent on the price.

Funny thing is that I've never asked David for a discount off a watch, cuz I know his quoted price to me is already darn bloody good.

Its always a shock and hilarous reaction hearing about prices from Aussie AD. Its as if they spewed so much BS for such a long time they start believing in it and think its normal! AU$12k can almost get 2 subc on TRF. I remembered earlier this year when I wss in the process of getting a SS subc Australia AD were charging almost AU$10k for a new one :D Insane!

As mentioned earlier I thought a Perth Rolex AD would be doing a roaring trade, well perhaps a steady trade with never ending mining boom WA is experiencing.

Like you Des I will continue to purchase from trusted sellers right here. As you mentioned I can literally buy three from the FS section for the price of one at full retail in Aus.

I have mentioned before that I have never been inside a Rolex AD here in Australia. That may change when the new 116570 hits the streets. But that will only be to have a look, as I am sure the retail on these will be pushing close to $12K.
