Rolex Ad's are dropping like fly's around here.

Here in Michigan, Rolex AD's are getting their lines pulled due to not fallowing rolex's request to stop giving major discounts.

3 Ad's here have had rolex pulled from them in the past month.. They had been rolex dealers for years..

i cannot believe it. Also, I know one of these AD's depended on rolex alone to get customers in the door.

I feel bad. seems rolex isn't taking any more BS anymore and their really starting to fallow through with this... seems they have started it michigan and not sure where else next? anyone else see this happening around you?

I guess when the AD's are going down so will the grey dealers which in the end will have an impact even on the people who doesn't go directly to an AD. A pricier future awaits Rolex fans when the watches only are distributed through Rolex controlled boutiques I think.

IMHO the good old days are gone with nice discounts.Within a year I predict all grey dealers will be getting no more 10-20% off if anything from there sources and selling very close to MSRP. And at that price very little is moving so they wont even have an interest in taking the risk.

There was one AD in my area (Grand Junction, CO) for many, many years who stopped being an AD about one year ago. I'm not sure of the reason but suspect it was due to the general downturn of the economy and consequently his inability to meet sales quotas. I bought a Rolex from him years ago but at the time did not know enough to ask for a discount. So, don't know if that was ever an issue for him.

I know several greys or dealers looking for another line of work as they see the writing on the wall.

One would assume the reason they discount is to get their sales number up to meet sales quotas. If they did not discount, they may not have met sales quotas and lost their AD status either way. A shame really.

I agree... The days of the discounts and grey dealers is nearing the end... this for new anyway. For preowned there will always be a market for re sellers and the like IMO so the market will just change, I dont see it going away completely... the successful ones will adapt and the others will disappear

I bought my LV from that same Grand Junction AD.

Hey Subking, can you say who? Or PM me? thanks!!

I know Jared's here in SE MI are no longer AD's. And, yeah, I've heard 2 stories why, and I'll bet they're both half truths.

Been on going for the pass 6 months here in Asia. Discount only only 5% for ss and 10% for precious metals and 5% for some rare high end precious metal with rare dials. It is a good business strategy, well done rolex!

Could this be hype to sell watches now in the US? I mean, Rolex may have a huge market in Asia, but let's not pretend that they don't care for the US market anymore. Rolex make $X whether you buy from an AD or a grey. All the watches still come from Rolex anyway.

Maybe the stores that were closed were doing something else or just underproducing.

Just a thought.

Probably due to some random audit.

Thank god I already have the Rolex I want, wonder what will happen to my local grey dealer. Currently he gives good discounts, however with Rolex taking over supplies and margins will be slim.

I am told Rolex buys NIB watches from greys and dealers to see where they are coming from recently. Same with parts etc.Within a year I think they will have this all worked out and there will be no more discounts and if you want new the AD is the only place. This is a double edged sword for them as the grey etc dealers are also buying a lot of watches so sales of 2nd hand will fall as there will be no watches for sale at reasonable prices and new is sky high.

My AD told me today that ROLEX is cutting back inventory for dealers and just a matter of time grey dealers won't be around to offer discounts like they do now. And for AD to offer any discounts for a buyer at an AD is going to be next to impossible.

Better buy now !!

Curious what the trusted sellers here think about this.

On the one hand, I can see why Rolex would do this, but it can back fire with collectors (like those here) that expect a decent discount and because of said discount is why they have a collection to begin with.

If you save $2000 per watch, after you buy 3-4, you can virtually have a free one vs having bought them at MSRP. I know the math will not sit well with some, but give it a thought for second. Savings equals more liquidity for future purchases.

I was in the shop about six months ago but didn't ask why they were no longer an AD. They had one new Lady DJ for sale and said it was the last. Otherwise, they had a number of pre-owned for sale and would even take requests for pre-owned and would try to source them. As I understood it, the shop would continue to service Rolexes but I now have to wonder if they can still access genuine parts (didn't think to ask). To my knowledge, at least two of them (it's a family owned business) are certified by Rolex. They serviced my first Rolex every 5 years since 1990 and always did an excellent job.

For the Ad's sakes I don't feel comfortable listing their names as i feel bad for them and they are still in biz and don't want to make them look bad. but I can say i have called to find out if they wanted to move any of their stock at discount and they said no, they will continue biz as normal and stick to a 5% discount on all models with no price increases over time until the lot is gone. I know other grey market dealers have contacted them as well asking to buy the lot and they have been turned down.

Also to add, i know two of these ad's that have lost rolex are putting the blame on one Ad who is very large in MI and now has more locations and still have rolex. but talk is talk. So who knows.

One Ad i don't feel guilty listing is tourneau in sommerset mall has lost rolex along with other lines.. hublot and a few others.. i dislike tourneau and their sales people. it's a miracle they have lasted this long.. no one ever shops in there. its always dead.

I love rolex, but if they keep going the direction they are currently going, they will lose me as a customer (not that they care). I know what you are saying..."yeah right, pal"

Seriously though, in a few years when an SS Sub is 11K with no discount you will find me saving for an AP Royal Oak.
