Anyone use Life Lock?
In light of Mark's theft and the shocking (to me) amount of fellow TRF'rs who have been victimized by identity theft, I was curious if anyone uses Life
Lock? If you do, what are your opinions? I have our credit reports frozen at all 3 agencies and it seems to work well but was wondering if Life Lock is a compliment to that or not much more. I know that I could call them but I'd rather ask the Rolex Collector on the street first. |

They don't do anything you can't do free yourself, or with cheaper services. I have monitoring through my AMEX card, and an identity theft rider on my homeowners insurance.

I used em after my AMEX episode, I think I signed up for a year and then I found out that like others - I can do this all my own and the cc's I use also have these security features in place...

I paid for Life Lock, after a physicians office that I used to work for, used my SS# to bill United Health Care for a patient I had not seen and I wasn't working at that clinic at the time (I quit when I realized how bad the clinic was).
I contacted United Health Care and reported them, then I signed up for Life Lock. Is all Life Lock did was put a hold on my credit through the 3 reporting agencies. I could have done that myself, so I didn't renew. Despite that they get Experian to send me a credit report yearly, without me paying or requesting it. I wouldn't waste time or money on them, just check your credit report yearly.

I used it for about a year and all it did was make getting credit for myself a pain the ass! Forget automatic approval you have to wait for a call and then verify all your information.
I wanted it to make impossible for anyone to request my credit report but it does not do that it only makes it harder (not impossible) for someone to get credit in your name. Everyone has the right to request a free credit report from all three reporting agencies once a year or anytime you are denied credit. Don't be fooled by the free credit report stuff it is free go to the Federal Trade Commission: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/cons...dit/cre34.shtm The junk mail it said will make stop did not stop but it did decrease. All in all I felt it was a good service but not worth it.

That was a good wiki read. Its run by a bunch of frauds and crooks! And that "guarantee" is pretty much worthless.

I just check my credit report regularly and shred all documents that I discard.
