Rolex and Irene damage
This was the second-oldest tree in my yard. I am sad.

Just be glad it doesn't appear to have caused any further damages or injury to something other than the tree.

I was wondering that myself, but all the roots are broken, so I don't think it would live.

So sorry. Glad you're okay.
Talk to a tree care professional before you decide it's absolutely kaput. If so: Perhaps planting a new tree will make you feel better, and keep that yard pretty for the future. |

I dunno. Sorry to spam this thread. No hurricanes around here but there were some bad winds a few years back that did similar damage to trees and they're still going...albeit lying down. Just seems a shame to write it off after it's been there for so long.

Like your sense of humour, stepping out after a hurricane and taking a photo of your watch.
Hurricanes are no fun at all. Living in FL we had a few bad ones... Glad you are o.k.! Enjoy life and deal with the tree tomorrow. Greeting from the sunshine state. |

That sucks. Not to minimize your loss, but it could have been much, MUCH worse.

Not to minimize your loss. But, it was a tropical storm when it hit NY. Some feeder bands may have had mimimal hurricane force gusts. I'm glad the storm weakened. After Andrew and Wilma I don't wish that upon anyone. It was ugly. After Wilma five neighbors and I armed with chain saws took 4 days to open the road to get out of the neighborhood. Then another 7 days, chain saw in hand to clear the lawn. After that debris everywhere and not a single traffic light - all were blown away. No electricty. Total chaos.
Glad you and your family are fine.

It may be to tall and top heavy to survive a replant. Speak with a tree company and find out.

With all due respect to FlyingMoose, I don't understand the relationship between a tree falling over and his watch.

Wow, big tree! Thank goodness it didn't hurt anyone when it fell down.

(Someone needs a lesson in thread hijacking, and maybe a Valium.) P.S. I'm pretty sure I saw a Rolex action shot in the OP.
