Buying a GMT 16710?

So I am looking to become a first time Rolex owner and have been lurking around the sales forums quite a bit as while I can afford a brand new one, I cannot afford the divorce that would quickly follow.

That being said, there is something that just draws me to the GMT Pepsi.

Which leads to my question, is there any reason not to buy a regular black bezeled GMT Master and then just purchase the pepsi bezel separately and have it switched out?

It seems like the regular black bezel version goes for much less than the pepsi model so I could save a lot of $$ by doing it that way.

Any input or advice in this regard is greatly appreciated.

I hadn't noticed that, but if that is the case sure go ahead and get the one with the Black insert and then be ready to purchase a Pepsi insert later. Factor this cost and the cost of a potential service into your purchase.

Heck the GMTII is a classic. Buy and enjoy, I know I am.

I really have not seen any price differance in the black, pepsi or coke as they can be changed

There are two different GMT's in the Sapphire ere and pre ceramics.. The GMT II 16710 and the 16700 GMT Master. The GMT Master usually sells for a bit less as it does not have the jump hour hand.

The GMT Master can frequently be found with a black insert, but when the GMT II first came out in '83, it only came in black/red and no other insert was available until the introduction of the 16710 in '88. Both the GMT II and the GMT Master were made side-by-side until about 1999..

So, the pepsi is really more properly associated with the GMT Master and the black/red with the GMT II....

Having said all that............ all of the sapphire crystal GMT inserts are interchangeable so you can put on any color you want.. I would see no reason why one with a pepsi insert would command more compared with another of the same year and condition...
