Dinner at Windsor Castle...Black Tie...
So, I am going to a charity fund-raiser next week at Windsor Castle. It is black tie and very formal. What watch would people suggest I wear for this "once in a lifetime" experience? My wife had a designer gown made and bought (and was loaned) some jewels. She is going to wear her WG DJ w/ diamonds (of course) and some of her other very nice jewelry. My watch choices are a SS Sub, Blue TT Sub or an Breitling Emergency Mission on a Black rubber strap, I also have the SS bracelet. I don't want to hear "not to wear a watch"...that's not my style. Thoughts?

SS Sub would be my choice.

No watch.
Some would say it's disrespectful to your host to wear a watch with a tuxedo. |

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but non of those choices are appropriate for a black tie affair... You may as well skip the formal Patent leather shoes & wear work boots with your tuxedo... My opinion is borrow/buy a simple thin leather strap watch, or no watch... Sorry...

As has been said before, do as bond would. Sub would be my choice.
Having said that, a simple dress watch would be more appropriate if it were in the mix. |

Preferably no watch, but if you have to... gotta be the SS sub. Just keep it tucked under your cuff.

Also, seeing how it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, and you're wife picked up a few new jewels, maybe look into picking up your own dress watch? JLC, Patek , Baume + Mercier etc etc. |

Forget all that stuff about thin, no date, black strap, yada yada ... This is the 21st century. I bet money you are going to see everything from Patek to Invicta. I know it's taboo with watch nerds, but somebody is bound to show up with a 50mm Invicta diver. You can count on it.

Don't step foot into Windsor with a watch! That is rude and the British are all about propriety. Don't show your ass like so many Americans do. Seriously, just trying to save you from embarrassment and unwelcome stares.

Invicta??? better bring the Breitling emergency and activate the transmitter! Nothing like a rescue intervention to get the party started!!!!!

I'd wear the SS bub or the TT Bluesy.... Or you could use it as a good excuse to buy a SS PT YM or a Gold sub or GMT, have a great time!

Really between the TT Sub and the SS.
I own a TT Sub C and absolutely love it but I think a SS might go better with the suit you will be wearing. Just my 2 cents. Have fun at the event! |

The blue will look off with the tux. This is why I did not buy a colored rolex for my first watch as much as I wanted one (a bluesie and something with some green are on my list).
SS sub gets my vote. |
