New rolex running VERY fast
Hey guys, I have a three month old DJ II that is running 8 seconds fast per day. The watch is through it's break in period and I set it to the atomic clock two nights ago with these results. I am pretty disapoInted by this, my three week old omega is running .5 per day, and my 4 year old omega is losing 4 seconds per day. Both of my omegas are smoking my new rolex!!! I really don't want to have it opened up and regulated, but maybe that is the best course of action. What do you guys think?

yeah if it annoys you, take it in and they can regulate it. If it is running consistently at 8 sec that is no real problem at all really just outwith specific COSC regulations.

yes, suggest you bring in the atomic clock for regulating ... :)
seriously if its still within the cosc specs, then it should still be ok, give it about 6 months time and if it still bothers you, then by all means you can bring it in the SC |

Make sure that you're not storing it next to your cellphone, remote key-fob, or other transmit/receive electronic devices...

Sounds like a simple regulation. If it is bothering you I would have it regulated. This should take about 30 minutes at an AD with a watchmaker on staff. The good thing is that it is consistent

My SS Sub was running about 15sec fast per day. Took it to the local AD, they did a regulation, kept it one week for testing, returned it at No Charge (didn' buy if from them!) and now, as of today, it's gained 5 seconds in three days!!
Take it to get regulated. You'll be glad you did. |

My Sub-C runs about 7 seconds fast. I don't really mind though.

+8 seconds per day is very fast in my opinion for a brand new watch... It is consistently +8 so clearly it only needs a regulation, though I really don't want the watch opened. For the price rolex is commanding their watches should be shipped within spec.

Well first a lot could happen to the bare uncased movement from the time of testing at the COSC.Then the return to Rolex and then perhaps stored for weeks, months, or longer before being matched to a case. Then shipped out to the various ADs world wide for sale, yes they should all perform to spec, but on the wrist it sometimes happen to be a little off COSC spec.Have you ever fully wound your watch?,as your watch is consistent myself would wait a bit longer. And if you do have it regulated on a machine,it don't always mean it will perform exactly the same on the wrist.

Ok I just set it to the atomic this morning and ten hours later the watch is running ten seconds fast... That's horrible, I don't think I'm going to have a choice but to get it regulated

Did you also give it 40 winds first as recomended? I would still wait a week as suggested.

+10 in 10hrs is well out of COSC spec and that would be worth sending in IMO. You don't spend that much on a watch to have it running too fast.

Have you tried lying it on its side at nights? That should slow it down.
Worse case get it regulated. Good luck. |

Yes it was fully hand wound as of this morning (it's been fully hand wound many times before) and I wore it for ten hours and it gained ten seconds. Is it just me or is that shameful on Rolex's part?

Sounds like a simple regulation issue. Not something to get your knickers in a knot over, it does not mean your watch is not worth what you paid for it or anything. As Padi said it is the consistency that is important ( and a hallmark of a quality mechanism). If it is consistently fast then it should be easy to make it consistently close to atomic standards.

You cannot test any watch the way you are doing it read my above post and test over 5 days for a accurate result.Even when the bare uncased movements are tested at the COSC.In the first 10 days of testing the movement could vary 10 seconds either way and still pass the test, remember its a Average of between -4 to + 6 seconds a day.Now if you lived in London the RSC there would regulated your watch while you wait.It only takes around 30 minutes start to finish including pressure check. And there is nothing shameful on Rolex part all your watch needs is regulation. You could have two identical watches say both regulated to say +2 seconds on machine. Now on one persons wrist it could be +2 but on someone else's wrist +3-4 or more its because its mechanical.

8 seconds a day wouldn't bother me one bit,as i would just hold it back to compensate.
