Was looking for a birth year watch for my son (2010) and see what I found..

Hi guys, was looking for a birth year watch for my son and came across a Accutron (which I always had my eyes on after saw some guys in the vintage section have the original vintage version, think was DiamondJack, thanks man) in commemoration of the original 50 years ago, so got this 2010 limited edition (1 of 1000 made) off a guy here in Oz:). Is 43mm and comes with a display case. Pics when I receive it.:)

Quote:
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Accutron, Bulova introduces the Limited Edition replica of the original alpha case version of the Accutron Spaceview 214. When Accutron debuted on October 25, 1960, it was the most accurate timing mechanism available. The world’s first electronic watch without springs or an escapement, the Spaceview 214 set a new standard in precision—it was operated by an electronically activated tuning fork – instead of ticking, it hummed. Created with a transparent dial, the original Spaceview model was not designed as a commercial watch, but rather as a selling aid to allow potential buyers see the unusual tuning fork technology. Each limited edition handmade replica will be presented in a specially designed wood and glass display case. The stainless steel watch has a curved sapphire crystal and an alligator strap. Each watch will be inscribed with its edition number out of 1,000.

Hey San

Looks fantastic and a crazy looking AND extremely beautiful watch. It's definitely going to get lots of comments .

Mine's from 1964 and was a Swiss made version. Most were made in the US.

I take it yours hums like the original with a very smooth sweeping second hand?

Enjoy it

Just for information sake...... the Bulova Accutron Spaceview was the world's first electronic watch introduced in October 1960 and was the first watch to keep time through electronics and the revolutionary concept of not using springs or escapement. The accutron watch itself began development in 1952 and was the first breakthrough in timekeeping in over 300 years.

The tuning fork technology was subsequently used on 46 NASA space flights timing equipment.

Bulova as a company also have a huge number of firsts, like the first company to introduce a full range of mens jewelled wrist watches in 1919. The worlds first clock radio in 1928, the worlds first television commercial in 1941.

I love the wire coils and resistors, I've been close a few times to picking up a vintage Accutron

Thanks. This ones based on the 1961 version alpha case but almost similar looking. Cool, didn't know some were Swiss too, any styling differences on the Swiss versions and where do you get bracelets like the one on yours?
Did read this one makes the humming sound and is it true that the hummings loud enough to keep you awake if left by the bedside? Looking forward to receiving it.

Hi San

The bracelet with mine is the original one that came with it so quite rare to find altogether. Its a sort of linked flat chain mail and looks pretty cool and unusual.

The humming is the same level as a normal watch ticks so you need to put it to your ear to actually hear it, so won't keep you awake

Although maybe if you rested it on something that resonated at the same frequency, it may.....

The bracelets awesome too:). Lol, actually read somewhere that the humming can wake you up, exaggerated I guess. Where do you service vintage Spaceviews?

Unfortunately they're not the best and a little bit small but that's the one! I really like it but it would look better with a Spaceview on its side...

Where in your opinion are the best places to get original examples of these, maybe will look at a alpha case version to go with the one am getting:)
