Rolex AD discounts in the US
Do you guys get discount from AD in the US on SS Rolex sport watches. I hear you can get them in Canada (as high as 30%). How about the US?
What discount can you expect? 20-30% as well? Even on the new Explorer II once it become available? Thanks, Al |

All depends on your relationship and negotiation skills.

I have but I understand it's harder to find good discounts right now, with fewer ADs and reduced supply compared to a year or two ago.

20-30 on SS sports models? No chance. The Canadians have a higher MSRP and a higher tax, so their 30 off is an inflated number.

I'd say location has a huge part in the equation as well. NYC? Fuggedaboutit!

I thought I got a good discount on my new GMT; I highly doubt any AD would give 20%+ on SS sports models... Most I've talked to gave 0-5%...

20-30% off a popular ss sportsmodel is extremely rare, regardless of your connections and negotiations skills. 10% is more like it, on a Sub or GMT, no discounts in general on a ss Daytona (I was offered no sales tax once which was equivalent of 5% off).
As someone said, Rolex are cutting down on ADs in the US. |

Traditionally 10% was a good discount on SS 20 on gold. A few years ago the market was in the toilet, few people were spending money and more and more people found dealers willing to do 15 or 20%. I think those days are gone, however strong relationships with an AD and/or serious negotiation skills can help. Like a car dealer, the lights need to stay on and the bills need to be paid, so one off deals for good discounts can be had. The new designs usually go with little or no discount for a while, for obvious reasons.

Yeah, and 10% also includes no sales tax so in reality that is 15% off. That is good enough for me, life is too short to spend days/weeks hunting for the best possible deal. I value my time with the family more than a few extra dollars saved.

10% discount and no tax is normal. If you are getting 20-30% off you have to be best friends with the AD owner pretty much. The bottom line is they dont need to discount the Sub-c and the GMT-c and the Daytona because they sell at close to full MSRP all day long.

Here's how it went down for my new Explorer I purchase...
Me: I do find the watch attractive, and it seems to match the attire I will wear it with The AD: Yes, it certainly is a beautiful watch. We sell them at a steady rate and everyone has been very, very happy. Plus, it's a Rolex which will only increase in value over time (debatable, but nonetheless) Me: Well, I am two things. One, I am serious, and two, I am averse to paying full retail. *I take out my AMEX card and lay it on the counter* Me: Here's your chance to close this deal. What can you do to win my business right here and now? I ended up getting the new Explorer I for $5450 when retail is $6200 so I guess it worked to some degree. I highly recommend being able to pay right then and there if you're going to be a serious haggler. Don't window-haggle because it leaves the AD feeling as if you just wasted their time and wanted to see how low they would go for the fun of it. That's not only rude in the world of business, it's just not the way a serious shopper conducts themselves. You will most likely never be respected and taken seriously in that shop ever again, no matter how serious you might be. It's really just a simple negotiation. Know your walk away price and you'll be just fine. Always treat the retailer with respect and let them know you understand your two numbers may simply not work out. A successful negotiation means that both sides walk away with a win, so be fair. |

Wow, it sounds like some of you guys got some serious discounts on your SS Rolex. I'm in the market for a GMT2c right now for myself and a datejust 26 or 31mm for my wife.
Can someone provide me the name and contact of their AD where I can get a discount close to 30%? Feel free to PM me! Thanks! |

Three days ago I bought my first Rolex, a new 116610LN Sub Date, at a Canadian AD. I paid the equivalent of 23% off from US list price plus 5% sales tax. I hope I got a good deal.

As someone said, it also depends on if it is a chain AD or a family owned shop, and more importantly the location. ADs in high traffic areas like New York or San Francisco with lots of tourists aren't going to discount has easily because they will sell it anyhow. It is not unheard of that Asian tourist walks in and buys 2-3 Rolexes or more.

No harm in negotiating. I've often gotten discounts of 50% or more.*

I guess it depends on location. In south Florida a SS Sports model means 0% discount.
cheers:

It depends on location but getting any more than 10% off a SS Sports model from an AD is not too common anymore. I would say 0-10% is not unreasonable and if you can have them ship out of state you can save the sales tax

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I'd rather not start a new one...
I am traveling in the US on business this week and have been cruising the ADs in the areas I've been visiting. I stumbed upon a great shop in a Southern city with a magnificent Rolex collection. They had a SS Daytona with a black dial... stunning! Anyway, I have been eyeing a new GMT II since I got my Exp 39mm last month. I want to put a leather strap on the Exp for the weekday's professional look, but have the GMT II for the weekend and vacations. This shop, of course, had one so I began feeling out the salesman. Nice guy, shot me straight after realizing he could catch more flies with honey. I asked what their discount was on SS, and to his credit he honestly replied that is was 5-10% on SS. I did some quick math and countered with a deeper discount but let him know I was completely ready to buy. He said he could get close with a phone call to one of the owners. I gave him my cell # and told him to call me as I had to leave to see a client. Here's where it gets interesting... As I'm putting my jacket back on he smiles at me and say "sir, I just have to ask, do you work for Rolex?" I replied no and he told me that Rolex has been secret shopping ADs all over the country looking to shut down deep discounters and grey market suppliers. He felt that my approach, while very tactful, respectful, and professional, was exactly how he heard Rolex was conducting these investigations. Lots to glean from my experience as to the future market for grey Rolexes, and increased values as well. I just thought you guys would be interested in that story. Oh, and I will let you know if he calls me back and accepts my offer :) |
