Sub C Slight Problem

So, I just gave my Sub C a little clean & I have noticed a bit of dirt/dust on the face actually on the dial under the crystal! I'm going to take it back to my local dealers tomorrow and see what they will do!

I've only owned this watch from new since march this year but in my eyes this needs rectifying.

What are your thoughts on this??

If it bugs you, and is not visible by the naked eye (not under a loupe), then by all means take it in to be rectified!!

It's up to you? You could either fix it now or wait until the next service?

It's bugging me & you can see it with the naked eye, even worse when the light catches it + I know it's there now!
Just don't know what they would be able to do about it! Luckily its still in warranty & I strongly feel that nothing should be under the crystal on a 5k watch especially a Rolex!

Would bug me as well. While I understand that know thing is perfect, I would expect customer service to do the right thing and resolve this matter. I would return it to my AD and let them determine how they are going to fix the problem.

I'm not going to lie my bracelet was driving me nuts how when i would look at my watch the first link off the end link was crooked. It always looked slanted and offside. I finally decided to do something about it and went to the rolex service centre today and they replaced all the permanent links and endlink on the one side. Needless to say i'm happy. If you're close to a service centre i would try going there instead of the AD.

Rani: did you just show up? Did you have your warranty card with you?

Well, I feel your pain. On 9-2-11, I bought my new Sub-C from my local AD. It was nirvana for the first week, and then I was standing in my back yard and I noticed there was a "smudge" or something ON, but UNDER, the crystal between the 12 and 1 indices. I had not noticed it until the natural light caught it just right. I went to my AD and they confirmed that they could see it, too. They immediately called RSC in New York and suggested I ship it in for cleaning. However, with shipping time, weekends, etc, it would be a two week ordeal. I asked if the in-house watchmaker at my AD could do the work, but they were VERY reluctant due to the fact that it was a brand NEW watch. I was a bit upset since I was still in my honeymoon phase and this put a damper on it.

However, the smudge was obvious to me now and I knew I had to get it fixed. So, I jumped on a train from CT to NY determined to get it over with. I dropped off my watch on a Monday morning, and got it back on Friday afternoon, the same week, after I drove into midtown with my 4-year-old to get it (never again!!--$20 to park for 30 minutes). It was, of course, covered under warranty, but a big PITA. Anyway, it fixed now and all is well.

You can MAYBE see the mark in the photo just under the 1:00 indices, at about 7:00 in relation to it, if you look from differing angles. Its a small "darker" area. In real life, it was much worse.

Morning Jimmy,

I had exactly the same problem with mine, and I had to fix it.

Took it to the AD, they removed the back and the movement of the watch, cleaned it, put everything together again and made a pressure test for water tightness.....finished.

After one hour, I came back and had my new perfect watch! Many excusese on behalf of Rolex, shouldn't happen but nobody is perfect....

I had a small lint stuck underneath mine. I took it to Seoul RSC and they took care of it within an hour. They also gave me a shitload of their catalogs and magazines. Nice.

I had a piece of dust on the dial of a new Sub LV. Sent it to the RSC in Dallas to be rectified. 6 weeks later I had my watch back. From the multiple threads on this and other forums, it seems to be an ongoing problem that Rolex either can't or is unwilling to fix. I don't have an intimate understanding of how watches are assembled, but it would seem to me that it's possible to maintain a dust free environment or at the very least have a better quality control program no matter how many watches are built. Sorry for the rant, I just expect more from a "top quality manufacturer" in constant pursuit of perfection.

Found this on my hours old Daytona:

and a piece of dust on the 8 o'clock on my new Explorer I, and a 30% complete inner smudge on an Explorer II still in the AD's counter, and dust on the inside of my new DSSD....and a hairline crack in the center of my GV.....thankfully - I have an incredible AD so all issues were addressed immediately (with replacement watches) or I sold them quickly.

Well took the Sub C into my AD today & no problem to get it sorted! Apart from an approx turnaround of 4-6 weeks!!! (they did say it could be sooner but cant say)

So I'm now thinking about what to do! 4-6 weeks to me is to long to wait for them to rectify there balls up & for me to wait around without a watch!

I know I can't live with it coz all I seem to do when looking at the time/watch is see this bit of dirt/dust!! My AD is very very good and they have told me they will contact Rolex next week to see if the process could be speeded up. I will make my decision once I hear the outcome from Rolex!

Hhhhhhhmmmmmm, not a happy bunny!!

Does anyone know of any AD in the UK that could do this while I wait? My AD said that it's a really easy quick job but takes the recommended 4-6 weeks due to shipping & waiting for a free slot for it to be done.
