A watch in progress
You guys will appreciate this ...
I've been admiring the work of the independent Finnish watchmaker Stepan Sarpaneva for several years, and finally decided to order one of his newer creations, the Korona K3 Northern Stars with blue dial and SS case (he's only making 10 of each dial/case combination). The watch won't be finished for awhile but here are a few pics he sent of the work in progress. A few weeks ago: Yesterday: Needless to say, I'm really getting excited about this! |

Yes me too ... Sarpaneva has been using that same moon face in a number of different watches. At first I didn't like it but it has really grown on me once I thought about it more deeply. He's also making me a pair of cufflinks with it.

Stunning. I seriously love that. Great idea for cufflinks - will they have the moon?

Yes, the cufflinks will be the same stern moonface ... I'll be sure to post pics of those when I get them too.
This has really been a special watch-buying experience. Sarpaneva works alone -- the brand is just him and his bench. |

Jim, congratulations on a great purchase. I just looked at the website I like the Korana k2k. Were your not tempted by the evil Stepsister?

Wow. My grail is the Harvest moon. That's an exceptional watch you have being made there.
Stepan is a really charming guy as well, he was great as Basel this year. |

STUNNING watch!
I am becoming more and more intrigued by the independent watch makers out there. There are some AMAZING watches coming out of very small shops these days and many are unknown by all but the true watch junkie....

Yes, I have a few watches from the bigger names but was determined to go with one of the smaller shops for my next purchase (actually I sold my AP ROO Diver to free up funds for this). There are a lot of very exciting smaller brands these days. FP Journe may be the greatest watchmaker alive today.)

He's been very nice in my dealings with him for sure. I especially appreciate his starting work on my watch in August - - I understand he likes to spend as much of the brief Finnish summer as he can on his motorcycle. :-)
