Newbie needs help please
hi everybody, glad to be part of TRF...just got my rolex today and i need some
help. i have a late 1970's model rolex date precision manual wind and i am having a hard time setting the time on it. i know you have to keep turning it till you get to the correct date and time but the watch will only let me turn it counter clockwise i cant turn it forward. when i first tried it let me turn it clockwise for a few times then it stopped and when i would turn it the crown would unscrew completely off..i need help is there something i am not doing correctly? any help would be appreciated...thanks in advance sorry about the bad quality pic |

I would get it checked out buy a watchmaker as it should set either way.
It sound like the wheels are not engaging correctly to me, but I am not a watchmaker. I have had this happen to a few watches in the past. I hope this is of some help. |

It sounds like the stem is not secured properly in the winding crown. Thats why when you turn the crown clockwise its unscrewing it from the stem.
You`ll need to get it corrected by a watchmaker. You could try putting a small spot of loctite in the threaded crown tube and carefully screw it back onto the stem ( making sure not to get any loctite anywhere else ) but I doubt you`ll be able to screw it tight enough to secure it, it might hold but no guarrantee. Best off getting it to a watchmaker. |
