My Point of View
I do this quite often. This may be a perspective that alot of people may never see. I have videos from all over the place.
This is my office...... These video's were taken with my camera phone on 2 seperate occasions. Every little movement is picked up by the phone so it is nowhere near as bumpy as it seems. The first one is a landing in Sapporo Japan a few months ago. The weather was nice and clear. You will see the runway appear from the left side. The second is a landing in Hong Kong, Chep Lap Kok airport, the new island airport. Rather hazy day in HK, so the runway appears out of the haze at about 5 miles from the end. After landing I forgot to turn off the video so it keeps running after I put it down. http://s172.photobucket.com/albums/w...oroLanding.flv http://s172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ongLanding.flv Enjoy

I guess you have GPS on that thing.
Very cool!! Although a bit disturbed to hear "Did he give us permission to land?"

We have a safety culture at our company, very simply "when in doubt...ask?" Hong Kong often delays landing clearance, until short final, so this is typical. You cannot hear the ATC communications because we are wearing headsets, just what we say. But that controller, I swear was not breathing for a few minutes, he was talking so much Very busy in HK.

Flying into the old Hong Kong airport was such a rush, and that's from the back of the jet. Man the first time I did it, I didn't think we were going to stop before hitting the terminal

Fantastic videos, Larry. Yours looked just like what I see on my Flight Simulator. And one of these days, I'm going to get that landing right.
And the 747 landing. When your one of the geese, you don't get a real appreciation for high off the ground you are coming in. One question: did he cut that landing a bit close, or was the runway at the old HK airport really that short? I flew in there several times, but don't recall how close we came to the end.

Excellent videos, Larry...very enjoyable.
I have to give you some demerit points, though. In BOTH videos you forgot to indicate right after landing!!! In the HKG video, some tosser wanted to know if the other tosser in the tower had given you tossers permission to land!! A bit late for that, wasn't it?

Idont remember the length of that runway but he had plenty of space left. When you a sitting 50ft high in the cockpit of a 747, everything looks short. Challenger 601 Quote:

On a trip to Beijing a while ago.......I saw Scorpions on a stick(My new avatar ). Those babies were alive . And they were there to be eaten by the goodfolks walking by. I thought that it might be a little different. If you look closely,on the left side you can also see a seahorse on a stick. ...and no I did not!

Very nice, Sir. Sorry a bit late for my comment.
I would love to see the camera positioned behind you so that we can see you of being busy to operate everything. Is that allowed by the FAA, Sir? Say the magic word: "Please..."

These were made withmy mobile phone so Ihave no way of mounting it behind us, but it would be a great view. And I dont fly a US registered aircraft so I dont deal with the FAA

All this time I've only been dealing with the flight deck in Flight Simulator and that very simple and lousy logitech joystick. The best moment was when we had the touch-down and quickly extending the spoiler and applying reverse thrust. I'd love to see that in real life, where in your case you must be doing it everyday. Please...please... But if it would be endangering then I wouldn't ask for it.
