hey phil..from another phil...

my response to another thread:

well, if this will add to your confusion..

I started in Panerai when they released the first affordable auto in-house! Coming from Rolex, I wanted a date, auto, and in-house.
You guess it: 312 in Oct 2009.

Since then, I have gone deeper into Panerais and the 312 is gone and all my PAMs are handwound (8 days or the basic ETA).

Your mileage will vary...

Love my 312N ... Not necessarily move on from it, rather add complimentary pieces.. For me a radiomir! IMHO, 312 is the perfect historical/ contemporary piece! It will never be for sale... Unless my son sells it, at which I will disown him! :)

Yes an 8 day is an automatic upgrade from a 312. I am looking to trade up my 312 to 233.

Panerai has made a lot of 312's. When you are releasing 4000 a year of them, they simply become more commonly available on the used market.

Its always to your benefit there are a bunch of them around on the forums at the same time. The guys hungrier to sell keep dropping their prices :-). You can probably pick one up right now in the 5's.

Great buy!

I'm the opposite in that I've ended up with the 312. Started with 196, 111, 183, 005, and 000. I just find the 312 ticks most of my boxes. 1950 case, new strap release system, second sub-dial, date w/o cyclops, no GMT, no power 'fang'. I would only upgrade for a 1950 case manual wind with date & sec with power reserve on the back.
