New GMT II is the Green 24hr hand here to stay??

Hi all,
From being on this forum I know one thing is certain. Only Rolex know what they will do in the future and they are extremely good at keeping this information private. Knowing this I am still very interested in knowing your opinion on this.

The life span of the Green 24Hr hand and inscription on the new GMT II?

I might be wrong but I believe the green colour is used to celebrate a Rolex 50th anniversary?? Is this correct? Will this mean that in the near future it’s possible they will change it back to the traditional Red hand?? Would that mean the green handed models could become a rare collector’s edition???

You're right about Rolex Corporate closely keeping the future to themselves.

However, to speculate:

The "new" GMT II is here to stay since they have already announced that the 116710 predecessor will be discoutinued. Since it is here to stay, and just by the new owners on this forum, there are/will be lots of them out there and not even an "artificial" shortage seems to be in the cards.

For the green hand and font. ....taking a clue from the Sub LV, I believe that the green is here to stay for the near future.. Rumor has it that Rolex has had some success in casting the ceramic in green....more fuel to cement the future of green hands and fonts - and possibly a green bezel in the LV's future....

But....I expect that Rolex will offer some variation on the GMT in the future and I hope one of those will put the red hand back on.

As we know--Only Rolex knows.

I tend to agree with Larry..for what ever reason (corporate color?) Rolex has hooked on to green. The LV, GMT, green glass Milgaus.

At this rate any new Sub design might even have SUBMARINER in green.

I think that is a good way to think about it Robert. It is somewhat like when they transitioned from the 1675 to the 16750 models back during the early 80s.

As far as my speculation goes, I still think there is a chance that they will go back to the red 24 hour hand. The reason I say this is because if they release a Pepsi bezel with Ceramic later on, the green hand would not really match the bezel. It would look out of place in my opinion. So if you think of it that way, there is still a chance that we might see the red 24 hour hand again, especially like I said, if a ceramic Pepsi bezel is released.

I hope the Pepsi is dead and that a green/black ceramic will be done. Red is nice, but green is better.

That would be nice combination to see. I can picture it in my head somewhat.

For me personally, it might take a little getting used to though since its always

been the Pepsi that was my favorite watch. If that kind of bezel comes out, we

should start thinking of a new nickname for that. Since the blue/red was

nicknamed Pepsi and all.

If the newest GMT evolves to red 24 hour hand and pepsi bezel many will look at the 16710 as obsolete. If the green and all black bezel remain it will make the 16710 unique and a Rolex that stands on its own.
Not sure which scenario I'm looking forward to.

I actually like the look of that rendition, aside from the polished center links. That is one sweet looking watch. My only thought is that can they (manufacturer's) actually make a bezel of ceramic in two colors? I'm not so sure that they can! How about one in all green? Also, is it just me or is it the lighting in the new SS GMT II pics that shows the green hand to be somewhat seagreen or mint in color?
