1st Rolex - The Good News and the Bad News
Hi All,
I posted here for the first time last month to get people's feedback on what type of Rolex to get as my first. It was basically down to the SubC and the Daytona. I realized early on (after trying on the watches) that the SubC was for me. The Good News: After contacting a few local ADs, I decided to buy from the same AD that sold me my PAM320 earlier this summer. She was able to get me the best price and since it was out of state, I didn't have to pay sales tax. The watch is absolutely stunning! Just looking at the ceramic dial and the feel of the new bracelet is more than enough to warrant the higher price. Throw in the new clasp, and it ends up being a great deal IMO. The AD also threw in a sizing toolkit so I could resize it myself. Now Here's the Bad News: The wife accidentally saw the new watch and she fell in love with it! In an unexplainable moment of panic, I told her that this was her anniversary present (anniversary date was later in the week). I hadn't bought a gift yet and after seeing that she liked it so much, I decided this would be a great gift for her. I was actually surprised at how much she liked the men's style watch. I guess the fad hasn't died down yet... So now, I'm back to the drawing board looking for a new "first" Rolex for myself. Since it would feel weird to wear the same watch as my wife, I figure I should look at the DSSD. It's so close in appearance to the SubC and the substantial size of the DSSD should make me feel "manlier" next to my wife and her SubC. I already own a 44mm watch with my PAM320, so the extra size of the DSSD shouldn't bother me... Thanks all for letting me share my story. Great forum everyone! Mike |

I think the DSSD would look good on your wrist. Just make sure it works thickness wise ...

Manlier went out the window with... "In an unexplainable moment of panic, I told her that this was her anniversary present".

You didn't discuss your purchase of the SubC with your wife before you got it?
In this case, go with the daytona. |

That's some serious good news, bad news - mostly bad depending on how much you loved the watch.

That is hilarious. Women do look great wearing a 40mm watch, she has great taste.

I'm reminded of that bit by Bill Cosby where he catches his daughter with her hand in the cookie jar and she says "I was getting a cookie for you."

Get the Daytona for her. The sub looks way to big on her wrist.

If it were true I wouldn't believe it!
Don't be mad you posted a private moment on a public forum. It's too big for her wrist is what you should have told her... |
