Date Wheel Having To Be Replaced?

Quick question for the experts. Don't have any reason to doubt a seller but I don't understand...

A watch I'm looking at had to have it's date wheel replaced. Because per seller...
"at some timeit was set with the dial hands in the upward position and it caused problems". It would change on it's own but not if you set it by hand".

Why would this happen? How could replacing a Date Wheel fix that?
Am I not understanding what "Date Wheel" means?

Thanks as always!

M

Agreed!!

The date wheel is the disc that rotates under the dial to display the date numerals...
I'm not understanding the explanation from the seller and fail to see how the hands come in to play with discription stated!

Best off finding a prime working example without issues, which I'm sure you'll agree~!

The date wheel does have teeth on the outside rim where the spring lever hits it to change the date..

Sometimes a datewheel will get broken teeth and need to be replaced because when it gets to the area with a broken tooth, it won't engage and change...

However, unless the watch is pre-70's, it couldn't have happened due to changing the date with the hands in the wrong position..

Either he is ignorant of the actual issue and is BS'ng his way through, or he is not telling the whole story...
