what grade grit paper do you use?

to restore the brushed finish on the caseback? I have a very nice brush finish on the case back which was slightly hairline scratched that happened when quoted for a service. Anyone ever done it just faintly only to get rid of a scratch that is across the grain of the brush finish which stands out and is very annoying. THANKS!!!

Try scotchbrite GREEN pads. Rub in one direction.

120 grit would be closest to the factory finish...
Here's a great tutorial from Larry (Tools) in our reference section that may prove useful!

will it work for both gold and stainless steel back or is it not advisable for the gold back?

Gold is much softer, and personally I wouldn't bother as it's never to be seen while on the wrist.
If you must, go slow and easy so as to not remove much material, but yes, the 120 grit will work!

Thanks for the great reference tutorial. I'll never hesitate getting an engraved watch again!! Quick, easy, and a very professional result.
