I just got my first Rolex

Since this is my first ever post and thread. I would like to introduce myself to the rolexforums.com family. My name is Ryan, living in Toronto.

Here's my story on how i got my first Rolex. It was in 2003 when i finished college for automotive studies. i was only 19 at the time. my mom and dad said "once you get your automotive service technician license, we'll buy you a Rolex" they both have one aswell. my dad has a ss DJ which he got in 1982 in Saudi Arabia and my mom has a ss ladies DJ. were not a wealthy family, but strive for the best.

Now its 2007. i passed the test for my automotive license. and its time for the Rolex my parents promised me. i was stuck in between the Explorer II and the GMT. after doing my research on which Rolex to get. i choose the new ss GMT 116710. after reading rolexforums.com. i realised that this watch was hard to get. so i called the 3 local AD in Toronto. with a call to one of AD. they told me they were expecting one in the following days. i was very surprised it was on its way. i called my parents from work and told them they were getting one. 3 days later i have a call from my AD he said " your watch will be here in 30 minutes". so i called my parents from work. and said the watch is on its way. my whole family went except me. after a week of torture of not getting it yet. they finally present the watch to me on my party for recieving my automotive license.

Now only 23 years old with a beautiful timepiece. all my family and friends are awe struck of the beauty, elegence and the price of the watch. they all ask me "is it real?" i always respond back with this answer "just look at my face and you'll know if its real or fake" pics will be up soon. and thanks for this forum. for educating me on Rolex's.

Congrats and great story; welcome, too...

Sounds like an excellent present, and a keeper for all times.

Thought my dad would give me his vintage TT GMT for my college graduation at age 27, but didn't get it. Maybe for my 30th birthday...

Enjoy the watch and wear it in the best of health.

Hi Ryan, welcome aboard!

Congratulations on the GMT, but even more so on getting your C of Q.

Where did you go for trade school, Centennial, Mohawk?

Congratulations Ryan and welcome.

The new GMT is a beautiful watch indeed.

It will be with you for a long, long time. When you retire (and a Grandfather), you will still have it, and it will be still working.

If it could only talk.

Wear it in good health.

John.

I've been teaching Gear Trains and Running Gear at Mohawk for almost 30 years. We do block and day release, as well as GM ASEP. Haven't run any MAP programs for a while. Congratulations again on obtaining your C of Q.

Enjoy the watch.

Too bad. Had you advertised your interest in one of these on this forum earlier and mentioned you were a Torontonian, I could have got you a nice deal on the price. I'm assuming you're talking about almost buying from Royal DeVersaille on Bloor and Bay St. I did business with Irene when I got my SD and got a nice discount on a cash purchase. Helped out a fellow TRF'er here on a similar deal with her.

Kris did steer me to Irene, which led to the best discount I've ever found to date, so he knows whereof he speaks.

Best,

Chris
